League of Women Voters forums

Homewood mayor

Homewood Mayor Rich Hofeld has been in office since 1997 and has had few challengers in that time. This year, though, new resident Brady Chalmers is vying for the position. The two met Saturday, March 15, in a League of Women Voters candidate forum to offer voters their qualifications and visions for the village. Flossmoor mayor

The forum for mayor of Flossmoor candidates was held at the Homewood Science Center on Saturday, March 8. Candidates included incumbent Michelle Nelson and challenger Joni Bradley-Scott. The LWV forum guidelines are available here: bit.ly/LWVguidelines.

Homewood trustees

The League of Women voters hosted a forum Saturday, March 15, giving voters a chance to ask questions of candidates for Homewood Board of Trustees. Candidates included Tiffany Cole, Craig Frank, Vivian Harris-Jones, Patrick McAneney, Phil Mason, Lauren Roman, Patrick Siemsen and Liz Varmecky. Flossmoor trustees

The forum for Flossmoor Board of Trustees candidates was held on Saturday, March 8, in the Homewood Science Center. Candidates included Gary Daggett, Kevin Dorsey, Brian Driscoll, Belgee Falkner, Troy Holmes, Phil Lee and Carolyn Rodgers. The LWV forum guidelines are available here: bit.ly/LWVguidelines.

Homewood-Flossmoor School District 233

The forum for Homewood-Flossmoor School District 233 candidates was held March 1 at Flossmoor village hall. Candidates who participated were Lenita Gipson, Ariana Leonard, Camille O’Quin and Aredell “A.J.” Roundtree. Candidate Tamekia Smith was unable to attend. Hazel Crest mayor

The League of Women Voters Homewood-Flossmoor Area held a forum Saturday, March 22, including candidates for mayor of Hazel Crest. The candidates, all current trustees of the village, were Sandra Alexander, Marlon Rias and Java Rogers. Cynthia Butler of Park Forest served as moderator. The League of Women Voters Homewood-Flossmoor Area held a forum Saturday, March 22, for Hazel Crest trustee candidates. Delphine Cherry, Jonathan L. Cooper, Merle Kimbrough-Huckabee, LaTonya Dupa Jones, Karmaleta ‘KC’ Mosley, Marquita D. Marshall Motley and Mia C. Reed participated. Cynthia Butler of Park Forest served as moderator. Hazel Crest clerk

At the League of Women Voters Homewood-Flossmoor Area candidate forum in Hazel Crest on March 22, two candidates for village clerk, Jadie Peters and Joyce Dickerson, were given an opportunity to introduce themselves to voters.

Neighborhood candidate forums

Ballantrae of Flossmoor Community Association

Part 1

Ballantrae of Flossmoor homeowners association invited candidates for Flossmoor village board to present their qualifications and answer questions at a meeting on March 12. Association President Yasondra Rodgers served as moderator.

Part 2

Mayoral candidates Joni Bradley-Scott and incumbent Michelle Nelson participated, as did trustee candidates Gary Daggett, Kevin Dorsey, Brian Driscoll, Belgee Falkner, Troy Holmes, Phil Lee and Carolyn Rodgers.

Heather Hill Civic Association

Heather Hill Civic Association sponsored a candidate forum on Wednesday, March 19, including a portion for Flossmoor mayor candidates Joni Bradley-Scott and Michelle Nelson. Barbara Karstrom served as moderator.

The Heather Hill Civic Association held a candidate forum on Wednesday, March 19. Part of the meeting was devoted to candidates for Flossmoor Board of Trustees. Candidates who participated included Gary Daggett, Kevin Dorsey, Brian Driscoll, Belgee Falkner, Troy Holmes, Phil Lee and Carolyn Rodgers.

Heather Hill Civic Association hosted candidate forums Wednesday, March 19, including one for those running for Flossmoor School District 161. Candidates who participated were Tre Childress, Crystal Cleggett, Ashly Giddens and Cameron Nelson. Barbara Karstrom served as moderator.

Thornton Township supervisor

Two of four candidates for Thornton Township supervisor participated in a forum sponsored by the Lansing Journal, Harvey World Herald and H-F Chronicle. Nate Fields and Richard Nolan answered questions. Candidate Napoleon Harris and write-in candidate Tiffany Henyard were invited but did not respond.

Three of 12 trustee candidates participated in the forum, including Carl V. Dombrowski, Kesha Richardson and Dominique Randle-El.
