Lenita Gipson

My primary focus has been building strategic partnerships with key stakeholders to help increase awareness, educate their teams, and improve patient outcomes.
Previous service: Board Member for Illinois Spina Bifida Association and Spinal Cord Injury Association of Illinois; member of American College of Healthcare Executives.

Most important issues: College, career, and life readiness; fiscal responsibility and equitable resources; partner schools, family, and community engagement; professional excellence; and student voice and empowerment.

The Homewood-Flossmoor School District’s 2024 – 2029 Strategic Plan proactively involves key stakeholders (i.e., students, teachers, administrators, Board, etc.,) to help chart the course to improve outcomes from current practices. For example, as it pertains to College, Career, and Life Readiness, the goal by 2029 is that 80% of H-F students meet the State of Illinois College and Career Ready Indicator, thereby making them eligible for the Illinois Distinguished Scholar Distinction. HF students will have the knowledge, skills and competencies to prepare them for the next stage of their educational and professional careers.

Top goals: To “Strive for Excellence Together!” I am passionate that STEM is a pathway to success for HF students!! Having a challenging upbringing, being raised by a single mother, losing her at the age of 12 to cancer, then being raised by my grandparents (in Chicago and Flossmoor), I can identify with students who are navigating difficult, personal circumstances. Excelling in STEM prepared me for educational and professional opportunities that may not have been available.

I will focus on Preparedness for College, Careers, and Life, especially with the new science wing! For “College,” equity and rigor will be my aim by focusing on all students having successful experiences with challenging coursework, college level material, and university exposure. For “Careers,” exposure and opportunity for all students to 21st century futuristic skills and industry level credentials. And for “Life,” belonging and social wellness by focusing on healthy behaviors and a positive culture.
