Thornton Township Board of Trustees will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, in township hall, 333 E. 162nd St., South Holland. The agenda is available here.

Highlights: Under old business, four items that have been on the agenda for months without receiving approval will return, including the 2024-2025 budgets for the general fund and general assistance fund plus a proposal to provide a property tax refund to residents and bonuses to staff. The latter two were defeated at the Jan. 28 meeting.

Homewood Board of Trustees will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, in village hall, 2020 Chestnut Road. The meeting will start with a public hearing on the proposed North Halsted TIF District. Monday, Feb. 10

Animal Encounters: Incredible Bats: From 11 a.m. to noon at Irons Oaks Environmental Learning Center, 20000 Western Ave., learn about bats and other creatures that usually get a bad rap. Get ready to see these “creepy” creatures in a whole new light as you meet snakes, tarantulas and rats. Fee is $6 for H-F Park District residents, $9 for non-residents. Click here to register.

Cookbook Club for Teens. Anyone in grades seven through 12 who likes to cook, bake or talk about great recipes is invited to meet from 7 to 8 p.m. at Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, to choose a cookbook and pick a recipe from it to try at home. Registration is required

Tuesday, Feb. 11

Make It Take It Tuesday. Do you like to make things? Teens are invited to the FORT on the second floor of the Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, from 6 to 7 p.m. to grab supplies and make a cool new craft. Instructions and supplies will be included, but certain tools will not be provided. Registration is not required.

Lego Club. Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., will provide the bricks. Participants provide the imagination. Lego Club will meet from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. All LEGOs stay at the library, so bring a camera to capture your creations. Please leave your LEGOs at home so you don’t lose your favorite pieces. Registration is appreciated, but not required.

Homewood Stories. Award-winning storyteller Megan Wells will host Homewood Stories at 7:30 p.m. in The Community House at Flossmoor Community Church, 847 Hutchison Road in Flossmoor. Tellers will be Tony Labriola, Maria Kostas, Louis Greenwald and Shawn Cobb. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. Guests are welcome to bring their own beverages, dinner, snacks to share. Tickets are $15 payable in cash or check.

Valentine’s Day Trivia on Tap. Lassen’s Tap, 2131 W. 183rd St., will host a Valentine-themed trivia contest starting at 8 p.m. downstairs.

Wednesday, Feb. 12

Martyr to Radio. Homewood Historical Society will hold a brief business meeting at 6 p.m. in Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, followed by a presentation by members of the Anderson and Wolf families about Homewood’s connection to radio history. Light refreshments. Free and open to the public. Masks optional.

Daddy Daughter Date Night. Chick-fil-A, 17450 Halsted St. in Homewood will host a Daddy Daughter Date Night from 6 to 8 p.m. Event includes a horse and carriage ride, photo opportunities and party favors. Dressing up is encouraged. The event is free, meals can be purchased.

Thursday, Feb. 13

Galentine’s Day – Charm Bar Fun. Loulou Belle boutique at 2049 Ridge Road in Homewood will host an opportunity at 4 p.m. to make a necklace or bracelet from the shop’s charm bar.  Tickets are $20 and include stainless steel paperclip bracelet or necklace, five charms, mocktails and treats.

Chess Club for Kids. Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, will host an hour of chess practice from 4 to 5 p.m. for children 7 and up.

Building the Future. Flossmoor School District 161’s annual STEAM Night will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Parker Junior High, 2810 School St. 

Friday, Feb. 14

Make Your Own Valentine. Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, will host a Valentine card-making session all day starting at 9 a.m. No registration required. Free for Homewood residents only while supplies last, limit one per library card.

Parents Night Out. Minami Dojo, 1835 Dixie Highway, Building B, Suite 202, will host activities and food for kids 6 to 14 from 5 to 10 p.m. Movies, games, face painting, pizza. Cost is $75.

Valentine’s Day Parents Night Out. Believers Center, 2425 W. 183rd St. in Homewood, will host kids 5 to 12 years old from 6 to 11 p.m. so parents can have a date night. Cost is $50. Call 815-905-8403 for more information.

Saturday, Feb. 15

Petco Adoption Event. South Suburban Humane Society will host a pet adoption event at Petco, 17930 Halsted St. in Homewood, starting at noon.

International Candy Taste Test. Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., will host a chance to test your skills at the International Candy Taste Test starting at 2:30 p.m. Contestants will be put into four groups of three contestants and given candy. Then they’ll get a chance to guess where the candy comes from. The team with the most correct guesses wins a prize! Registration is required and limited.

Celebrate Black History Month with Jewel-Osco. The store at 17705 S. Halsted St. in Homewood will host its 26th annual Black History Month Celebration starting at noon. Live music by drummer Rodney Harper. Prizes. Kids’ activities. No tickets are required.

Mythic Promenade. Rabid Brewing, 17759 Bretz Drive in Homewood, will host an adult prom starting at 8 p.m. Create the mythic prom experience you never knew you needed. Mythical creature costuming and/or semi-formalwear required. Sasquatch in a tux, fae in a prom dress? Do it up. Tickets available here.

Love Hangover Comedy Show. Join Thornridge High School Class of 1995 for a special Love Hangover Comedy Show from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Copper Still, 1961 Ridge Road in Homewood. Host will be Big Keith and the comedians are M’Reld Green and Shawn Morgan with Dj Tone. Cost is $50 per couple, $30 per single

Valentine’s Day Ball. Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., will host a fun time with tunes for kids to dance with their Valentine starting at 3 p.m. Bring dad, mom, grandpa, grandma, or any other family member! Soup for the Soul. The second annual fundraiser for the Center of Food Equity in Medicine will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. at FCC Community House, 847 Hutchison Road in Flossmoor. Tickets are $30.

Friday, Feb. 21

Jazz at PSC. The 36th annual Prairie State College Jazz Festival Concert will start at 7:30 p.m. at 202 S. Halsted St. in Chicago Heights. World-class professionals and talented student musicians will perform. Tickets are $10, with group rates available, $5 for seniors and PSC students. Tickets are available at the door.

Saturday, Feb. 22

Star Wars and More. Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra’s concert “Star Wars and More: A Celebration of John Williams” is at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at Trinity Christian College, 6601 W. Friday, Feb. 28

Heart & Soul. The Ingalls Development Foundation will host Ingalls Impact: Heart & Soul culinary event at the UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial Flossmoor Family Care Center, 19550 Governors Highway in Flossmoor. The event from 7 to 10 p.m. will feature the talents of local Flossmoor area chefs, a live musical performance and beer from Flossmoor Station. Proceeds will benefit the Heart Healthy community outreach education and awareness program at UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial. Tickets are available at idfheartandsoul.givesmart.com.
