Conductor Kirov returns to Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra for third season
Maestro Stilian Kirov will conduct the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra through the 2022-23 season. Kirov, a native of Bulgaria, is a graduate of The Julliard School and has a master’s degree in conducting from the Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris. Kirov joined the IPO as music director in 2017.
H-F student to lead division of Midwest Jewish youth organization
Louis Berman, a junior at Homewood-Flossmoor High School, was elected to serve as president of the boys division for the Great Midwest Region of BBYO, the leading pluralistic Jewish teen movement.
District 153 bands concert Thursday celebrates diversity of music
The District 153 bands spring concert, “Celebrating the Diversity of Music,” will be given at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 9. The program includes new music written by composers from underrepresented groups.

Residence damaged by gunshot in Homewood
A residence was damaged late at night on Wednesday, May 1, when someone apparently shot at it, Homewood police said. Around 11 p.m., Homewood police officers responded to a report of gunshots being fired in the 2800 block of Chayes Park Drive.
