HELP SAVE PETS —  A surge of new arrivals at its shelter facility along with a mid-week heat wave putting stress on air conditioning systems has prompted South Suburban Humane Society officials to issue a plea for people to foster animals. Both its locations will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, for foster pick-ups. Anyone interested in fostering animals can send a text to 708-956-2959 to see if the shelter staff can make a match for you. Or email SSHS at [email protected].

EARLY TRASH PICKUP — Homewood Disposal announced on Monday that because of excessive heat expected Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, trash pickup will start an hour early — about 5:30 a.m.
