Thornton Township Board of Trustees have a special meeting scheduled for 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 25, in township hall, 333 E. 162nd St., South Holland. The agenda is the same as the Nov. 19 agenda, available here

Highlights: As reported in the Lansing Journal, the meeting Nov. 19 did not have a quorum because trustees Chris Gonzalez and Carmen Carlisle are boycotting meetings as part of a dispute with Supervisor Tiffany Henyard over financial transparency. Gonzalez told the Journal he and Carlisle do not plan to attend the special meeting Nov. 25.

Flossmoor Community Relations Commission will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 25, in village hall, 2800 Flossmoor Road. The agenda is available here.

Homewood Board of Trustees will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, in village hall, 2020 Chestnut Road. The agenda is available here. The livestream of the meeting can be viewed here. Use meeting ID 980 4907 6232, passcode 830183.

Holiday closings/changes

  • Flossmoor Public Library will close at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, and will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28. 
  • Homewood Public Library will be closed Nov. 28 for Thanksgiving.
  • Homewood Disposal will be closed Nov. 28. Monday through Wednesday trash pickup service will remain on schedule Thanksgiving week. Thursday pick ups will take place on Friday, Nov. 29. Friday pick ups will take place on Saturday, Nov. 30.
  • Flossmoor village hall and public works will be closed Thursday, Nov. 28, and Friday, Nov. 29. 
  • Homewood village hall will be closed Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 28 through Nov. 30.

Stuff to do

Monday, Nov. 25

Teddy Campbell Bands – Good Vibe Mondays. Copper Still Martini Lounge and Speakeasy, 1961 Ridge Road in Homewood, will host music starting at 8 p.m. Buy tickets here.

Tuesday, Nov. 26

H-F High Guitar Preview Concert. The concert will start at 7 p.m. in the Mall Auditorium, South Building, 999 Kedzie Ave. in Flossmoor.

Wednesday, Nov. 27

Friendsgiving. Not My Dad will perform at Thornton Distillery, 400 E. Margaret St. in Thornton. The evening will help support Center for Food Equity in Medicine. Raffle tickets will raise money for a Christmas Dinner Food Bundle. The Center will also be conducting a food drive and the Distillery will be serving a featured drink and will donate $2 to the Center on each sale.

Karaoke at the Q. Twisted Q BBQ, 2053 Ridge Road in Homewood, will host karaoke from 8 to 11 p.m.

Friday, Nov. 29

Holiday Gift Workshop. Homewood Public Library’s Makery, 17917 Dixie Highway, will host custom gift creation using  the Glowforge, sewing machine, Cricut, 3D printer and more. Staff will provide step-by-step instructions to make a variety of projects. Appointments are recommended, but not required. Walk-ins are welcome during our open hours. Access to the space is free for Homewood residents and available to non-residents for a fee. Fees for materials vary by project. Makery hours, fees, policies, and appointment request form can be found here. The workshop will continue daily through Dec. 19.

Wine Tasting. The Haus of Hue and Gypsy Fix are hosting a wine tasting event. at 1 p.m. Meet Erika Walker, independent wine consultant from Scot & Cellar. Clean crafted organic and vegan friendly. For anyone age 21 and up.

Saturday, Nov. 30

Celebrate the Season. Flossmoor kicks off the holiday season with its annual holiday festival. Shop local and visit Santa downtown from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30. The Homewood-Flossmoor Park District will offer free kids’ crafts inside the Park Place building from 3 to 5 p.m. Tree lighting and hot chocolate at 5:30 p.m. in Flossmoor Park.

Friends Half Price Sale. Friends of Homewood Public Library will host a half price book sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the library mezzanine, 17917 Dixie Highway. 

Friends Book Bundle Gift Shop. Friends of Homewood Public Library will host a book gift shop all day from Nov. 30 through Dec. 23 at the library, 17917 Dixie Highway.

Small Business Saturday Popup Shop. Music, food, venue tours and a variety of vendors at 1820 Ridge Road in Homewood from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30.

Casey McDonough, Dag Juhlin at Izaak Walton. Homewood Arts Council will sponsor a concert from 7 to 10 p.m. on Nov. 30 with hometown favorite Casey McDonough, Dennis J. Leise Music and special guest Dag Juhlin. Get tickets here.

Sunday, Dec. 1

South Holland Master Chorale Concert. The South Holland Master Chorale will present “Joy and Fanfare” at 4 p.m. at St. John Neumann Church, 17951 Dixie Highway in Homewood.

Plan ahead

The Democratic Party will hold a caucus at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, in Homewood Auditorium, 2010 Chestnut Road. The purpose of the meeting is to nominate candidates for elected positions in township government, including supervisor, four trustees, clerk, assessor and highway commissioner. The caucus notice was published in the Lansing Journal.

The Wiz & A Very Jackson Holiday. The South Suburban Special Recreation Association Show Choir & Drama Club will present “The Wiz” and “A Very Jackson Holiday” from 7 to 9 p.m. Dec. 2 at Freedom Hall, 410 Lakewood Boulevard, Park Forest. Tickets available here.

Holiday Yard Cards. H-F Park District is hosting holiday yard card workshops from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays through Dec. 12. Click here to register.
