Many came out Saturday afternoon to support Cat Habitat Inc. and their ongoing mission to save cats. The fundraiser took place from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at Abundant Grace Church in Homewood.
Attendees enjoyed a painting lesson by Chris Hnatusko-Janich, where they painted cardinals with a scenic winter background for the holidays. With each purchase of a fundraiser ticket, people were provided with a 16-inch by 20-inch canvas, brushes, and paint. With simple step-by-step instructions given by Hnatusko-Janich, everyone was able to illustrate wonderful results, regardless of artistic experience.
The volunteers also provided a variety of baked goods for donations. There were homemade cookies, pie, brownies, and more. Attendees were able to take whatever they liked and contribute a donation at no set price.
Char Dyer, founder of Cat Habitat Inc., gave a touching speech on the rescue. “We’ve been doing this for 15 years and we’ve rescued almost a thousand cats so far,” Dyer said, adding, “some people say that’s not a lot, but if you were to put them all together in a room, it is.”
Dyer and volunteers expressed gratitude to attendees for coming, and supporting the cats at their rescue. “This is all for them,” they said.
Dyer emphasized the crisis of the feline community, and how there are more abandoned cats now more than ever. Dyer and the volunteers do everything that they can to provide treatment and find loving homes for cats in need.
