H-F Football Falls. The Vikings post-season run ended Saturday, Nov. 8, with a loss to Lockport, 21-20.
H-F Holiday Lights Tour. The villages of Homewood and Flossmoor are teaming up for the second annual trolley tour of community holiday decorations. Anyone wishing to have their home on the tour map should sign up by Nov. 28. Send questions to [email protected].
Respond Now Food Pantry Update. While renovations at 1439 Emerald Ave. near completion, Respond Now will open a temporary food pantry at 20820 Western Ave., Olympia Fields, thanks to the generosity of The Emmaus Community. The pantry will be open Nov. 10 and Nov. 12-14 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Regular pantry rules apply, and shelf-stable items are all that will be available due to storage limitations (no meat, dairy, or produce).
Anew Annual Coat Giving Tree and Adopt-A-Family Program/Food Help. Anew: Building Beyond Violence and Abuse is inviting anyone who is interested in purchasing a coat or adopting a family for this holiday season, please complete this form. Anew also is helping survivors of domestic violence who depend on SNAP benefits that have been disrupted by the government shutdown. Prime Time Fitness with Gigi. Low-impact aerobics for beginners or mature exercisers starts at 10:30 a.m. at the H-F Racquet and Fitness Club, 2920 W. 183rd St. in Homewood.
NARCAN Training. From 5 to 5:30 p.m. at Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, local non-profit group, Live 4 Lali, will offer instruction on how to administer NARCAN, a drug that reverses opioid overdoses.

Bagels & Bingo. Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., will host Bagels & Bingo from 10 to 11:30 a.m. There will be small prizes for each game winner, bagels for all as long as supplies last and conversation with neighbors. This program is being sponsored by AgeOptions Senior grant and participation is limited to seniors only.
Rising Readers. A storytime from 10:30 to 11 a.m. at Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, is designed for ages 0-6 years old. Join us for stories, songs, bubbles, and more.
Myths and Magic Book Club. Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, will host a discussion of “The Serpent and the Wolf” by Rebecca Robinson. Books will be available for checkout at Circulation Services.
Make It Take It Tuesday. Grab supplies for a cool new craft that you can make at the library or at home every month. Instructions and supplies will be included, but certain tools will not be. Stop by the FORT upstairs at Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, from 6 to 7 p.m.
Books Without Borders. The next book discussion will take place from 6:45 to 8 p.m. at Beyond Borders Café, 1036 Sterling Ave. in Flossmoor. The book is “Stamped – Racism, Antiracism, and You“ by Jason Reynolds and Ibram X. Kendi. It will be available at the Rock Shop, 18109 Dixie Highway in Homewood, and at www.bookshop.org. NextGen Voices Mix, Mingle & Mobilize. NextGen Voices will host a reception and fundraiser from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Copper Still, 1961 Ridge Road in Homewood, for Yumeka Brown, candidate for Illinois’ 2nd District congressional seat.

Read, Play, & Grow: A Storytime for Babies and Toddlers. Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., will host storytime for children up to age 2 from 10:30 to 11 a.m.
Insect Hotel. Irons Oaks, 20000 Western Ave., will host from 6 to 7 p.m. a session on insect hotels, which provide a habitat for a variety of beneficial insects, helping to increase biodiversity in your yard. In addition to helping the insects, you will be creating a beautiful outdoor art piece made from natural materials. For ages 8 and up. Nostalgic Roseland. Dan Bovino will share his popular treasure trove of photos and memories of the legendary Chicago neighborhood during the Homewood Historical Society’s monthly meeting at Homewood Public Library on Wednesday, Nov. 12. The presentation will begin after the organization’s brief 6 p.m. business meeting.
Chicago Southland Green Drinks. The environmental group will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. at Soundgrowler Brewery, 8201 183rd St., Tinley Park. The speaker will be Jack Brunner, an environmental scientist with expertise in remediation, compliance and habitat restoration. He will discuss the invasive carp that have posed a growing ecological threat across the Midwest since the 1970s.

Cook and a Book. H-F Park District will host from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. at Irwin Center, 18120 Highland Ave., an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of cooking mixed with Story Time. Children will enjoy story time and work in the kitchen to make snacks from the story. A keepsake recipe book will be created. For children aged 3 and 4. Fido’s Landing Fundraiser. The dog rescue organization’s medical fund needs more funds to help dogs in crisis. At 7:30 p.m., Fido’s Landing, 2207 W. 183rd St. in Homewood, will host an event for open conversation, a look behind the scenes and the chance to see exactly how your involvement can change lives. Try It Archery. The H-F Park District will offer this session from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at On Target Archery, 22520 State St. in Steger, is designed to build archery confidence and skills in a fun, supportive environment. For adult participants. No prior experience is needed. Whether you’re brand new or just brushing up on the basics, this session is a great way to build confidence and skills in a fun, supportive environment. Trivia Night at IJP. Stewpendous Productions will host Infant Jesus of Prague School’s annual trivia night. Open House at H-F Racquet & Fitness Club. H-F Park District will host an open house from noon to 4 p.m. at the club, 2920 W. 183rd St. in Homewood, to give visitors a chance to see new fitness equipment that recently was installed.
DIY Instruments. Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., will host an opportunity to make homemade musical instruments and play along to songs with simple melodies. Children under 9 years old must have an adult caregiver stay with them at the program. Register here.

Sounds of Illinois Brass Choir. The concert at 7 p.m. at FCC Community House, 847 Hutchison Road in Flossmoor, will feature the music of Taylor Swift, Yosuke Fukada, Gustav Holst, the Beatles, Handel, a pirate and a Canadian.
Wednesday, Nov. 19
Hot Topics: TIFs. Homewood village staff will host the first of what might become a series of informative workshops about how the village operates. The first session will cover tax increment financing districts, an economic development tool Homewood uses. The session will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Irwin Center, 18120 Highland Ave.
Honoring Flossmoor Veterans: Stories of Local Heroes. Flossmoor Veterans’ Wall of Honor official Kris Condon will share stories about Flossmoor veterans who inspired the new memorial that will be built adjacent to Flossmoor Park. The event will be held at Beyond Borders Cafe, 1036 Sterling Ave. in Flossmoor.
Owl Prowl. Irons Oaks, 20000 Western Ave., will host from 7 to 8 p.m. a session on owls. Ever wondered if an owl really is as smart as they say? Why don’t we hear them when they fly? Just how far can an owl see? Learn about owl calls, behavior and habitat during a short walk into the surrounding habitat to call for owls and listen for whooo might call back. Sahar Mustafah Book Signing. Beyond the Book, 18063 Dixie Highway in Homewood, will host a book signing from 4 to 5 p.m. for Homewood-Flossmoor High School teacher Sahar Mustafah and her newest book, “The Slightest Green.”
Suessical Jr. James Hart students will perform “Suessical Jr.” at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door. Free for children 3 and under.
Horton Archaeological Site in Flossmoor. The South Suburban Archaeological Society will host at 7 p.m. in Irwin Center, 18120 Highland Ave., a presentation on the Horton archaeological site in Flossmoor. J. Vernon Grubisich, who discovered the site in 1964, will describe how archaeologists studied the site to document the lifeways of Native Americans during the centuries leading up to their first contact with Europeans. The Lego League division of the Homewood-Flossmoor Robotics Club will present their work based on the site.
Holiday Mixology Class. Flossmoor Station Restaurant and Brewery will host with partner Thornton Distilling Co. a class on how to mix cocktails. Participants will receive their own 10-piece mixology kit with bamboo base, insight into and samples of barrel-aged beer from Flossmoor Brewmaster Jake LaDuke. Tickets are $48. Limited space. Butterball Burner 5K Fun Run. The annual run will begin at 8 a.m. at the H-F Racquet & Fitness Club, 2920 W. 183rd St. in Homewood. All ages and abilities welcome. Community Thanksgiving Gathering. Everyone is welcome to this free gathering at 7 p.m. at All Nations Community Church, 18620 Kedzie Ave. in Homewood.
