Flossmoor native to launch new village history with trolley tour, film

Tom Dobrez is bringing a new perspective on Flossmoor’s history with his book and film, “A More Perfect Place: The Story of Flossmoor,” and he plans to introduce the work to the community with a launch event on Saturday, Nov. 29.

The event will be hosted at the Flossmoor Community Church Community House, 847 Hutchison Road. There will be two film showings, the first at 1 p.m. and the second at 3 p.m. Trolley tours of the village will begin at 1:45 and 3:45 p.m.

Admission to the film will be $8. For $45, guests will get a trolley tour, film viewing and beverages.

Tickets and book copies can be purchased at flossmoorhistorybook.com or at Gypsy Fix, 1056 Sterling Ave.

The new history comes on the heels of the village’s centennial celebration in 2024. Dobrez said he tried to create a compelling story rather than simply a list of dates and places. He said his research uncovered new stories and details that many people probably are not aware of.

“It’s a living testament to the American experiment, a community that has grappled with issues of race, class and identity, and has emerged as a model of quiet, determined progress,” he said on the project website.
