Monday, July 7

Teen Leadership Council. Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, will host a meeting of its Teen Leadership Council from 7:45 to 8:45 p.m. in The Fort on the second level.

Tuesday, July 8

Bagels & Bingo. Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., will host bingo games from 10 to 11:30 a.m. There will be small prizes for each game winner and bagels for all until supplies run out. Participation is limited to seniors.

Storytime in the Park. Flossmoor Public Library will host storytime from 10:30 to 11 a.m. in Leavitt Park, 1010 Leavitt Ave.

Park Storytime. Homewood Public Library will host storytime from 10:30 to 11 a.m. in Orchard Park, 1655 Olive Road.

Choo-Choo Ride. GoodSpeed Cycle’s slow roll just riding around bike ride for all ages. Meet at the shop, 2125 W. 183rd St., at 6:30 p.m. The ride is about four miles at a leisurely pace. The ride ends at the shop around 7:30 p.m. with Dilly Bars and beers for riders. Helmets required.

Manga Club. The club will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. in the FORT, second floor of Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway.

Kids Art Camp – Animal Week. Bottle & Bottega, 2009 Ridge Road, will host a fun, hands-on break from screens with a week-long art camp designed for young artists ages 7 to 14. Each day, campers will complete a 16- by 20-inch painting while learning new techniques to build their skills and creativity. At the end of the week, there will be a special art show to display campers’ work. Tickets are $40.

Homewood Stories. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. at FCC Community House, 847 Hutchison Road in Flossmoor. Show starts at 7:30 p.m. Storytellers include Vijay Bhargava, Joy Wright, Karen Torme Olson, Errol McClendon and host Suzy Dritz. Admission is $15 cash at the door. No credit cards.

Wednesday, July 9

LEGO Club. Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., will host the club from 6 to 7 p.m.

IPO Jazz Reunion. The Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra will present Valerie Nicholson, piano, leading a reunion of Rich East High School jazz luminaries at Olympia Fields Country Club, 2800 Country Club Drive. There will be two shows, one at 6:15 p.m. and one at 7:45 p.m. Purchase tickets here.

Follow the Flush! The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District is offering a virtual tour of its wastewater treatment process at 10 a.m. The agency’s video describes how it works to protect waterways, reduce pollution and turn water into renewable resources. Registration is required and is being accepted at mwrd.org.

Teen Movie Club. Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, will host a showing of “Sandlot” from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Register here.

Trivia Night. Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, will host trivia for adults from 7 to 8 p.m.

Saturday, July 12

Green Thumb Saturday. Tristan Shaw of Possibility Place Nursery will offer tree planting advice from species selection to post-planting care from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. in the board room at Homewood village hall, 2020 Chestnut Road.

Musical Play with ScribbleMonster. Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., will host popular children’s musician ScribbleMonster from 2 to 2:45 p.m. Bring your dancing shoes and wild imagination for collaborative music, games and play.

Branch Chipping. Homewood Public Works will accept branches up to six inches in diameter (no pine or other evergreen, no shrub trimmings, no leaves or bags or super wrapped bundles) at the Municipal Service Center, 17755 Ashland Ave., from 8 a.m. to noon. For more information, call 708-206-3470.

Rock & Revel Market. The Streetz Artz Alliance will bring art, oddities, and summer vibes at the Quarry Ballroom in Thornton from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 121 S. Williams Street in Thornton. The event is rain or shine and will feature a wide array of artists and artisans. Admission is free.

Live Music at the Station. Butterfield Creek will perform from 7 to 9 p.m. on the patio at Flossmoor Station Restaurant & Brewery, 1035 Sterling Ave.

Homewood Outdoor Farmers Market. The market will be open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Martin Square on Martin Avenue between Chestnut and Ridge roads in downtown Homewood. Vendors will offer fresh produce, baked goods, handcrafted jewelry, skincare and more. Food trucks will be on hand and ready-to-eat meals will be available.

Book Brunch for Teens. Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, will host a brunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the FORT, second floor, to enjoy the two greatest things in life, food and reading. 

STEM Saturday. Science play and learning from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Homewood Science Center, 18022 Dixie Highway.

Barb & Dan’s Road Ride. Riders of all experience levels can join the group which leaves at 8 a.m. from GoodSpeed Cycles, 2125 183rd St. in Homewood. There is a no-drop group that rides about 20 miles and stronger riders sometimes go farther. Helmets required, daytime lights strongly recommended.

Off-leash Ride. A leisurely just-riding-around nine-mile ride every Saturday. Route includes Butterfield Creek bike path, Rovers Run and Izaak Walton Preserve. Starts at GoodSpeed Cycles, 2125 183rd St., at 8:30 a.m. sharp, ends back at the shop 9:45ish for donuts.

Sunday, July 13

Garden Walk. The National Council of Jewish Women South Cook Section will host the organization’s 13th annual Southland Community Garden Walk from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are $25 in advance, or $30 the day of the event. Proceeds will go to Respond Now and Aunt Martha’s. Participants will learn which gardens are open closer to the day of the event. For information visit www.ncjwsouthcook.org.

Life Sized Clue. Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., will host a life-sized game of clue for kids 8 to 18 from 2 to 4 p.m. Solve the crime as you play the classic “whodunit” board game, “Clue.” For optional fun, come dressed up as your favorite “Clue” character. Registration is required and limited to 12 participants per session (6 teams of 2 players).

Wednesday, July 16

Birds of Prey. From 11 a.m. to noon Irons Oaks Environmental Learning Center will host a chance to see raptors up close as the Northern Illinois Raptor Rehab and Education visits. The cost is $7 for H-F Park District residents, $9 for non-residents. Register here.

National Hot Dog Day. Homewood-Flossmoor Park District will host a hot dog cookout from noon to 2 p.m. in Irwin Park, 1800 block of Ridge Road in Homewood.

Thursday, July 24

Chamber Night. The fifth annual Chamber Night will bring the music and family fun to a new location, Flossmoor Commons, starting at 5 p.m. There will be food, local business vendors and more great music, headlined by an Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra ensemble playing showtunes. Bel Canto Community Choir will open, and this year there will be an after party featuring Return 2 Soul with Keya Trammell. This is a free event.
