Homewood-Flossmoor School District 233 Board of Education will hold a special meeting at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, in the Viking Room, South Building, 999 Kedzie Ave. in Flossmoor. The agenda is available here. The board plans to convene in closed session to consider personnel matters.

Monday, Oct. 21

Early Voting Begins. Voting in person on touch-screen voting machines in the Nov. 5 election is open from Oct. 21 through Nov. 4. Locations and hours for suburban early voting are available here. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 21 through Oct. 26, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 27, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 28 through Nov. 2, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 3 and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 4. The voting places closest to H-F include:

Yoga for a Cause. Support the group You Matter 2 and take an opportunity to unwind, connect with the community and make a difference in the lives of local youth. Adults (16 and up) will enjoy a calming yoga session, complemented by a glass of wine (for those over 21) or sparkling cider. Youth participants (ages 6 to 15) will have their own fun yoga session followed by ice cream. The adult session will be in the FCC Community House, 847 Hutchison Road in Flossmoor. The youth session will be in the Flossmoor Community Church Fellowship Hall, 2218 Hutchison Road. Adult tickets cost $25. Youth tickets are $15. Tuesday, Oct. 22

Haunted Ho-Flo Halloween Ride. “A party-pace tour of horror and high camp as we find all the best home and yard decorations in the Ho-Flo by bike.” There will be prizes for best costumes. Bikes should have lights. The cost is $5 per person, and proceeds will benefit the Cancer Support Center. The ride will start from GoodSpeed Cycle, 2125 W. 183rd St. in Homewood, 6:30 to 8:15 p.m.

Thursday, Oct. 24

Spooky Gaming Night. Homewood Public Library will host a special spooky gaming night from 6 to 8 p.m. for anyone in grades 7 through 12. Participants are invited to wear character costumes. Costume contest winner receives a $10 gift card. Pizza will be served.

Turtles, Lizards, Dinosaurs and Others Through the Ages. Izaak Walton Preserve general meeting from 7 to 8 p.m. at 1100 Ridge Road will feature Robin Whatley, paleontologist at Columbia College Chicago, who will describe “the deep history of changing landscapes and ecosystems that we share with resident and migratory animal inhabitants of our area.”

Friday, Oct. 25

Flashlight Pumpkin Hunt. Five half-hour hunts will start at 6 p.m. for kids age 3 to 12 at Irons Oaks Environmental Learning Center, 20000 Western Ave. in Olympia Fields. “Visit our woodland pumpkin patch after dark while stopping for fun and games along the trail. Do a spooky craft and enjoy a sweet treat.” The cost will be $10 for H-F Park District residents and $15 for non-residents. Click here to register.

Halloween Party. Wiley’s Grill, 800 Kedzie Ave., will host a party from 6 to 9 p.m. with Frank Sinatra tribute act Peter Oprisko. Fee of $45 per person includes two crafted cocktails or seasonal brews and house-made appetizers. For ages 21 and up. A costume is required. Call 708-957-8774 to register.

Saturday, Oct. 26

Bark or Treat Pet Parade and Costume Contest. The third annual Halloween event for dogs and their people will kick off at 3 p.m. on the Flossmoor Public Library lawn with check-in and games. The pet parade will begin at 4 p.m. and end at Flossmoor Station’s caboose. Costume contest judging will begin at 4:15 p.m. DJ Phil Lee will spin tunes.

Trick or Treat Trail. H-F Park District will host its annual trick or treat event for children ages 10 and under from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Millennium Park. The event is free for district residents, $2 for non-residents. Click here to register.

Weavings & Diversities. Cancelled (FEMA is using the location for disaster claims filing.) The Weaver’s Guild South show and sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Homewood Auditorium, 2010 Chestnut Road, is sponsored by the Homewood Arts Council.

Sunday, Oct. 27

Terrifying Toxic Tour. South Suburbs for Greenspace and scientist David Zaber will lead “toxic tours” through Izaak Walton. Guides will take groups of 12 through the woods and prairie until they arrive at polluted ponds. There will be information about the science issues, civic issues, and impact on people, pets, and wildlife. Meet at the main Ridge Road parking lot, 1100 Ridge Road, at 3:30 p.m. The last group will depart at 3:55 p.m. The total walking distance is approximately two miles and attendees should dress appropriately for the terrain. Plan ahead

Trick or Treat. Homewood will again host trick or treaters from 3 to 5 p.m. on Oct. 31 in village hall, 2020 Chestnut Road; the police department and fire department at 17950 Dixie Highway; and the Homewood Science Center, 18022 Dixie Highway.

Interview with Johnny Iguana. Homewood Arts Council will present an interview at 7 p.m. Oct. 28 in Senior Hall at Izaak Walton Preserve, 1100 Ridge Road, with the co-founder of the Claudettes and co-composer of the soundtrack for the TV show “The Bear.” Proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the Dr. Frances Wright Scholarship Fund at Prairie State College in memory of the late Dr. Karen O’Donnell. Click here for tickets.
