The League of Women Voters of the Homewood-Flossmoor Area will host a meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, to provide information on the history of the Electoral College. The meeting will take place in the Flossmoor village hall board room, 2800 Flossmoor Road.
The speaker will be David Brodnax Sr., professor of history at Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights and an adjunct professor at the University of Iowa College of Law. His talk is titled, “‘A Small Number of Persons: A Brief and Critical History of the Electoral College.”
The presentation aligns with the League of Women Voters organization’s long-term initiative, the One Person, One Vote Campaign. The multi-pronged approach of this initiative seeks for voters to be educated, engaged and activated to support a constitutional amendment to abolish the Electoral College.
Brodnax will address the education element of the project by presenting the legal history of the Electoral College, explaining why he thinks the Electoral College system has always been problematic for democracy.
Refreshments will be served.
