Volunteers are gearing up for a collection drive on Saturday, Nov. 2, to benefit the veterans at the Veterans Home in Manteno.
Volunteers will be stationed from 9 a.m. to noon at the parking lot at St. John Neumann Parish, 17951 Dixie Highway in Homewood. See below for a list of items of clothing, personal care, snack food and miscellaneous needs.
This is the second year for the veterans collection drive conducted by East Hazel Crest American Legion Post 1139, in conjunction with the parish’s PADS program. Monetary donations can be made by check payable to American Legion Post 1139, PO Box 1256, Homewood, IL 60430.
Clothing:
- Men’s button-down shirts, medium to XXL.
- Men’s T-shirts (sizes medium and large).
- Tank top undershirts (sizes M through XL).
- Men’s sweatpants/pajama pants – large.
- Men’s underwear – medium.
- Men’s zip up sweatshirts – Size M to 4XL.
- Men’s slacks (38 x 30).
- Men’s big/tall shorts – XXXXL.
- Velcro tennis shoes, assorted sizes/width.
- Military branch caps/hats.
Snack foods:
- Individually packaged cookies
- Microwave popcorn – regular and flavors
- Individual serving cereal (cold and hot).
- Single-serve bags of chips – assorted.
- Snack cakes – Little Debbie, Hostess.
- Bite-size candy bars.
- Coffee – regular ground.
- Gatorade – regular and sugar free.
- Sugar/Sweetner packets (individual).
- Individual coffee creamers – assorted flavors.
- Shelf-stable meals/snacks:
- chicken tuna salad with crackers.
- cup of soup (microwave) stews.
- Hormel complete meals.
- microwave mac and cheese cups.
- sardines, pickled herring in sour cream (small jars).
