Bremen Township Board of Trustees will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, at 15350 S. Oak Park Ave., Oak Forest.
The Finance Committee of H-F District 233 will meet at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 8. Topics include capital projects and the 2024-25 tentative budget. The meeting is in the Viking Room in the South Building at Homewood-Flossmoor High School, 999 Kedzie Ave. in Flossmoor

Homewood School District 153 Board of Education open seat. The board is accepting applications from district residents interested in the filling an open seat until the April 5, 2025, election. Candidates must be a United States citizen, be at least 18 years old, be a resident of the State of Illinois and the district for at least one year immediately preceding appointment, be a registered voter, and cannot be a child sex offender. To be considered, send a letter of interest and a resume to the district office in person or via email to [email protected] no later than Monday, Aug. 12. Tuesday, Aug. 6
National Night Out. Homewood and Flossmoor police departments will host individual National Night Out events from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6. Homewood’s event will take place in Irwin Park, 18120 Highland Ave., and Flossmoor’s will be at village and Infant Jesus of Prague School parking lots, 2800 Flossmoor Road. Both events give residents a chance to mingle and chat with local police officers and other public safety staff.
Choo-Choo Ride. The weekly four- to five-mile bike ride through Homewood and Flossmoor neighborhoods. Riders will meet at 6 p.m. at GoodSpeed Cycles, 2125 183rd St. The ride starts at 6:30 p.m. It continues Tuesdays weekly at the same place and time through Labor Day.
Wednesday, Aug. 7
Art Workshop. A three-hour art session for kids aged 6 to 12 starts at 6 p.m. at Irwin Center, 18120 Highland Ave. in Homewood. Includes summer themed crafts, painting, drawing and sculpture. The class is open to all skill levels. The fee is $30 for district residents, $40 for non-residents. Click here to register.
Trivia at The Ridgewood. The newly renovated establishment at 2059 Ridge Road in Homewood will host trivia from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. The contest includes five rounds of eight questions each that cover a wide range of subjects and span from the Silent Generation to the Alpha Generation.
South of Chi Improv Show. Thornton Distillery will host a South of Chi improv performance starting at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10. Click here.
Thursday, Aug. 8
‘Personification’ Show Closing Reception. The Christopher Art Gallery at Prairie State College, 202 S. Halsted St. in Chicago Heights will hold a reception from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. to mark the closing of the gallery show, “Personification.”
National Pickleball Day. Open play will be $5 for beginners or enthusiasts from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the H-F Racquet & Fitness Club, 2920 183rd St. in Homewood. Water will be provided. Gatorade and soft drinks will be available for purchase. For more information, call 708-799-1323.
Standards Based Grading Webinar. Flossmoor School District 161 is promoting a webinar at 6:30 p.m. to help parents and community members understand the district’s new standards based grading system. Check the district’s Facebook page for information. The webinar will be recorded and made available on the district’s website for those who can’t attend.
Miss Rosie’s Movie Club. The teen club will watch the film, “Back to the Future,” from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway.
Pickleball for Progress. Sister District Project will host an evening of pickleball that will include drills, contests and open play from 6 to 9 p.m. at the H-F Racquet & Fitness Club, 2920 183rd St. Pizza will be served. Tickets are $40. The event is a fundraiser to support state legislature candidates in Wisconsin and Michigan.
Friday, Aug. 9
The Ridgewood Grand Opening. The newly renovated The Ridgewood, 2059 Ridge Road, formerly the Ridgewood Tap, is holding its grand opening starting at 4 p.m. Free tacos from 5 to 7 p.m. Live music from Xtra Xtra.
Grown Up Night at the Splash Pad. From 7 to 9 p.m. adults get to take over the Splash Pad at Millennium Park in Homewood.
I Love House Music. Music by DJ Hula Malone, DJ Lil’ John, and DJ Maurice Joshua hosted from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Hazel Crest Park District, 2600 W. 171st St., Hazel Crest.
Saturday, Aug. 10
Paws Up, Dog Adoption Time. South Suburban Humane Society will have some dogs available to adopt, plus information about pet foster programs, from noon to 2 p.m. in the Helen Wilson Meeting Room at Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave. in Flossmoor.
Homewood Farmers Market. Fresh produce, artisan foods, handcrafted personal care item vendors plus live music will all be available on Martin Square between Ridge Road and Chestnut Road from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Liz Smith will offer a free yoga for kids session. No mats are needed. Serendipity Yoga will provide all materials.
Barb and Dan’s Road Ride. Weekly bike ride starts at 8 a.m. Saturday from GoodSpeed Cycle, 2125 W. 183rd St. in Homewood. There are two groups. One is a no-one-gets-dropped group that follows a 20-mile route. Another group goes on a longer ride. Helmets required. Lights encouraged. Riders of all experience levels are welcome.
Off-Leash Bike Ride. A nine-mile ride every Saturday starting at 8:30 a.m. at GoodSpeed Cycle, 2125 W. 183rd St. in Homewood. The route includes Butterfield Creek bike path, past Rover’s Run and through Izaak Walton Preserve. No registration. Donuts upon return.
Sunday, Aug. 11
Flossmoor Park Centennial House Walk. The village of Flossmoor will celebrate the centennial of the Flossmoor Park neighborhood with a self-guided tour of nine 100-year-old homes anchored by a block party at FCC Community House, 847 Hutchison Road. The event from 2 to 4 p.m. will also include a cookie bake-off. Donations to the Foundation for the Preservation of Flossmoor History will help the organization approach its goal of raising $500,000 in its capital campaign.
