Homewood School District 153 Board of Education will hold a special meeting at 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3, in the district office conference room, 18205 Aberdeen St. The board is expected to convene in closed session to discuss superintendent employment. Pokémon Club. Pokémon trading and card games at 6 p.m. in the FORT at Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway. For anyone in kindergarten through 12th grade. Bring your battle decks, doubles and extras to the library to battle and trade with other collectors.
Tuesday, Feb. 4
KinderCamp. KinderCamp aims to ease the transition to school for little learners. Each week’s session at noon hosted by Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, includes a story and lesson or craft, allowing children to learn and practice some of the skills needed for school.
Chair Yoga for Seniors. Chair yoga from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, led by Liz Smith from Serendipity Yoga & Wellness. Registration is required.
Winter Wellness. “Best Practices for the Season” at 7:45 p.m. at Serendipity Yoga and Wellness, 18300 Dixie Highway, will use a holistic healing system rooted in the harmony of body, mind and spirit to help participants optimize health during the colder months. Tickets available here.
Trivia on Tap. Lassens Tap, 2131 183rd St., will host a general trivia competition starting at 8 p.m. with prizes for winning teams.
Wednesday, Feb. 5
History of Chocolate. Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, will host an opportunity to learn about and taste chocolates from around the world from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Zen Doodling. Spend time in the serenity of nature and reset after the holiday stress from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Irons Oaks, 20000 Western Ave. in Olympia Fields. This meditational art form has numerous benefits, such as providing a calming effect, increasing mental retention, and improving one’s mood! Participants will go home with a unique piece of art, drawing pen, and a blank page to continue Zen-doodling at home. The cost is $8 for H-F Park District residents, $10 for non-residents. All Her Little Secrets Book Discussion. Thursday Afternoon Book Discussion will feature “All Her Little Secrets” by Wanda Morris from 2 to 3 p.m. at Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave. Registration is not required. All are welcome. Light refreshments will be served.
Just For Fun: Trivia. Do you know lots of useless facts? Do you simply know a lot about one thing? Do you just want to hang out with your friends and answer some trivia questions? This is your moment! Prizes awarded to winning team. Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, will host trivia starting at 6:30 p.m.
I’m More Than You Think I Am with Chef Tony Cannon. Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., will host a cooking demonstration with samples starting at 6:30 p.m., featuring Chef Tony Cannon, followed by a community discussion on the African American experience. Ice Skating Teen Night. You Matter 2 will host a teen skating night at the H-F Ice Arena, 777 Kedzie Ave., from 6 to 8 p.m. Tickets available here.
H-F Speech Regional Showcase starts at 6:30 p.m. in the Mall Auditorium in the South Building, 999 Kedzie Ave., Flossmoor. Homewood-Flossmoor High students will be performing in preparation for regional competition on Saturday, Feb. 8, that leads to the IHSA State Speech Tournament. The public is invited to this free program.
Saturday, Feb. 8
Painting with Tracie. Create your own masterpiece in this step-by-step program from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave. Each participant will create a “Shy Bunny” painting on a 12-inch by 12-inch canvas. All supplies will be provided and all skill levels are welcome. Registration is required and limited. For ages 18 and up.
Galentine’s Day Out. Shops on Sterling, 1056 Sterling Ave. in Flossmoor, will host an afternoon of product demos, shopping, workshops, refreshments and tarot card reading from noon to 4 p.m.
“Walls of Respect: Norman Parish and the Parish Art Gallery” Documentary. Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, will host a showing at 1 p.m. of the documentary with discussion to follow. Norman Parish was an American artist and art dealer who founded the Parish Gallery in Washington, D.C. The gallery focused on African-American artists when other galleries were less interested in showing their works. Discussion will be lead by co-producer Norman Parish, son of the focus of the film.
Spotlight Academy Cabaret Night Fundraiser. Spotlight Performance Academy will host a night of live singing and entertainment by academy artists, dancing, and a raffle with a “Great Gatsby” vibe. The event from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at FCC Community House, 847 Hutchison Road in Flossmoor, will be sponsored by the Jody and Karl Nurse Charitable Fund so all proceeds will benefit the academy. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. Free babysitting will be provided. Click here to register.
Xtra Xtra at the Ridgewood. The band will perform starting at 7 p.m. at 2059 Ridge Road.
Sunday, Feb. 9
Galintine Candle Class. Blue Pearl Candles, 2050 Ridge Road, will host a candle making class, including a bottle of wine with each class, starting at noon.
Love & Light Candle Making Date Night. You Matter 2 will host a candle-making workshop from 3 to 5 p.m. at FCC Community House, 847 Hutchison Road in Flossmoor. The BYOB fundraiser will have “a relaxed, fun vibe.” Tickets are $30 for individuals, $55 for couples and $160 for tables of six. Proceeds will benefit You Matter 2 youth programs. Soup for the Soul. The second annual fundraiser for the Center of Food Equity in Medicine will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. at FCC Community House, 847 Hutchison Road in Flossmoor. Tickets are $30.
Friday, Feb. 28
Heart & Soul. The Ingalls Development Foundation will host Ingalls Impact: Heart & Soul culinary event at the UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial Flossmoor Family Care Center, 19550 Governors Highway in Flossmoor. The event from 7 to 10 p.m. will feature the talents of local Flossmoor area chefs, a live musical performance and beer from Flossmoor Station. Proceeds will benefit the Heart Healthy community outreach education and awareness program at UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial. Tickets are available at idfheartandsoul.givesmart.com.
