Self-described beer geeks traveled from far and wide to sample Wooden Hell, arguably Flossmoor Station’s rarest and most renown brew. They converged to sample and pick up bottles of Wooden Hell beer at the brewery’s annual Pre-Dark Lord beer fest.

H-F girls track and field brings home first place trophy
It’s a first place state title for the Homewood-Flossmoor girls track and field. The victory fulfills a dream to bring the first-place trophy to H-F after the team won second place at the Illinois High School Association’s state meet in 2017 and 2018.
Homewood library board selects new executive director
A three-time Blue Island Woman of the Year winner has been hired as the new executive director of Homewood Public Library. On May 15, the library board of trustees selected Colleen Waltman to fill the position. Waltman comes to Homewood from her job as director of Blue Island Public Library, where she has worked since 2014.
IHSA inducts local ref into basketball hall of fame
For more than 30 years, John Messaglia’s side job as a referee had him calling personal fouls, three-second violations and double dribbles at basketball games. The Illinois High School Association recently inducted Messaglia inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame for outstanding achievement in basketball.
Homewood library welcomes new trustees, postpones contract OK
Tim Martin and Nancy Gildart were officially sworn in May 15 as the newest members of the Homewood Public Library board of trustees. Martin won a six-year term, and Gildart will serve for two years. Current member Tom Nowak was also sworn in. He won a six-year term.
