If you are having a bummer of a day and looking for something to brighten your outlook, a trip to Her Closet Boutique in Homewood’s Cherry Creek Plaza is a perfect solution. Step through the door into a wonderland of color, serenity, beauty and friendly greetings and your mood is magically changed.
Her Closet Boutique is an upscale consignment shop featuring new trendy jewelry, handbags, gift and home accessories.
Celebrating her 25th year in business with Her Closet Boutique, owner and proprietor Rose Demko is living her dream.
“The store is more than just a business to me. It is a special joy in my life,” she said. “I love my customers and I do my best to make it a welcoming environment. The customers tell me they love it and that it is like a ‘therapy’ to their spirits.”
“I have been a customer since 1998 and I have never come in here without finding something. I never leave empty-handed,” said long-time customer, Kenna Childress. “Rose is always kind and welcoming and you can tell she loves her customers.”
Demko said she has made many friends through the 25 years of business.
“They are loyal and regular customers. They know I will help them when they are looking for something special or seeking advice on a particular selection. I make them feel welcome and let them know they can stay as long as they like. I don’t hover over them. I believe that is why I am still here after 25 years. I am very blessed,” Demko said.
Formerly a cosmetologist and hair stylist, Demko has always loved fashion and the beauty industry. In 1994 she began working with a friend who owned the original Her Closet boutique in downtown Flossmoor on Sterling Avenue.
Eventually, she purchased the business and in 2014 she moved it to the current location at 18334 Governors Highway at Cherry Creek Plaza in Homewood. The new location was double the size of the former location. “With the increased space I gained customers and the business kept growing,” she said.
The shop accepts consignments on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. “We have a price point for everyone and a marked down policy. We have sales very day.” She added that she enjoys helping people in need and the store regularly donates merchandise to local charities and women’s shelters.
The store hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays.
