A local youth’s body was found shortly before 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, in the area of Izaak Walton Preserve in Homewood, according to police.
Police were contacted about 5:44 p.m. by someone reporting a missing 17-year-old boy. Officers used a drone and a K-9 unit from the Country Club Hills Police Department to search the wooded area.
The youth was found unconscious, and lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful, police said. Homewood Fire Department staff responded to the scene and confirmed the boy was deceased.
Homewood police, Illinois State Police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office conducted a death investigation. The cause of death is pending autopsy and toxicology results.
Police said the incident appears to be isolated, and there is no indication of any danger to the community in connection with the situation.
