Homewood board approves purchase of Dixie Highway property

The Homewood Village Board approved the purchase of a commercial property at 18157 Dixie Highway for $100,000 at the April 14 meeting, with plans to redevelop the site and support downtown activity.

The property, owned by Grand Prairie Services of Tinley Park, includes a one-story building and an adjacent rear parking lot. The property was previously occupied by Repeat Boutique, a thrift store that is now closed, said Angela Mesaros, Homewood director of economic and community development.

Grand Prairie Services is a nonprofit health care provider that has served the Chicago Southland region for over 73 years, offering outpatient counseling, mental health services and primary care, Mesaros said.

Under the agreement, the village will pay $100,000 for the property, along with a $1,000 deposit due within two days of acceptance. The property will be sold “as is,” Mesaros said.

The village expects to close on the purchase by April 30, she said.

According to Mesaros, a restaurant owner has expressed interest in renovating the building as a second business location. The village also plans to retain a portion of the rear parking lot for public use.

The purchase will be funded through the village’s general fund, with a $100,000 budget amendment approved by the board, Mesaros said.
