Teen dies in crash Sunday at 183rd and Governors

A Homewood teen was pronounced dead at the scene of a three-vehicle crash Sunday, March 22, at the intersection of 183rd Street and Governors Highway, according to Homewood police.

The victim, Kyran Smith, 14, was a student at Parker Junior High School in Flossmoor.

The crash occurred shortly after 8:15 p.m. when a gray Chevrolet Equinox traveling south on Governors Highway veered into westbound traffic on 183rd Street.

The Equinox struck two vehicles, a black Buick Park Avenue and a black Nissan Rogue that were stopped at the intersection.

The 36-year-old driver of the Equinox fled the scene on foot but was quickly located by officers, was treated at the scene and transported to a local hospital, police said.

The driver of the Rogue and the driver and passenger of the Park Avenue were treated at the scene and transported to a hospital. Kyran was a passenger in the Rogue.

The circumstances of the crash are under investigation by the Homewood Police Department Criminal Investigations Unit with assistance from the Suburban Major Accident Reconstruction Team.
