Homewood police investigate two cases of shots fired in two days

Homewood police responded to two reports of shots fired within a few blocks of each other within a 24-hour period.

The first report was received about 9:30 a.m. Sunday, April 20. Offers checked the area of the 900 block of Elder Road and found several spent shell casings.

No injuries were reported, but a vehicle in the area was damaged by multiple rounds, police said.

A preliminary investigation indicates the incident was not random and there is not an ongoing threat to the public at this time, police said.

Officers responded to a second report of shots fired about 5:30 a.m. Monday, April 21, in the 1100 block of Olive Road, two blocks west and one block north of the first incident.

Officers again found several spent shell casings near the location. No injuries were reported, but a home was struck during the incident. Police said officers do not believe the home to be an intended target of the incident.

In both cases, the perpetrator left the area prior to officers’ arrival.

Homewood Police detectives are investigating the incidents and urge anyone who may have information about either incident to contact the Homewood Police Department Criminal Investigations Unit at 708-206-3420.
