Highlights: A mayoral proclamation of Disability Pride Month, a request by Ruddell Christian for a special use permit to install a sport court at 808 Argyle Ave. and award a contract to McGill Construction LLC of Frankfort for parking lots patching and sealing.

Thornton Township Board of Trustees will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, in township hall,  333 E. 162nd St., South Holland. Find the agenda here.

Homewood-Flossmoor Park District Board of Commissioners 
will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, at the Goldberg Administration Center, 3301 Flossmoor Road. Find the agenda here. There will be a presentation on the Highlands Park racquet courts project’s final design at 6 p.m.

Highlights: The board will hear a presentation from Upland Design on the district’s master plan. 

Flossmoor Green Commission will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, in the village hall committee room, 2800 Flossmoor Road. Find the agenda here.

Bremen Township Board of Trustees will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, at 15350 S. Oak Park Avenue, Oak Forest. No agenda posted on the township website as of Sunday morning.

Homewood Property Assessment Town Hall. 
Homewood will host a town hall meeting with Cook County Assessor Fritz Kaegi from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, July 20, in the village auditorium, 2010 Chestnut Road. There will be an opportunity for residents to ask questions about increases in property value assessments and taxes.

Monday, July 15

Adolescent Activists. The Adolescent Activists, a club for teens to share views, will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. in the teen space upstairs at the Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway. The topic for this meeting is gun laws.

Tuesday, July 16

Prairie at Night. Former Coyote Run golf superintendent Dave Ward will lead a walk from 6 to 7:30 p.m. through the course, 800 Kedzie Ave. in Flossmoor, highlighting the native plans along the way. The event is free, but registration is required. Click here to register.

Homewood Stories. Tellers Dave Santori, Margi Ross, Megan Wells and founder Karen ODonnell will perform from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the FCC Community House, 847 Hutchison Road in Flossmoor. Tickets available here.

Choo-Choo Ride. The weekly four- to five-mile bike ride through Homewood and Flossmoor neighborhoods returns. Riders will meet at 6 p.m. at GoodSpeed Cycles, 2125 183rd St. The ride starts at 6:30 p.m. It continues Tuesdays weekly at the same place and time through Labor Day.

Wednesday, July 17

Animal Encounters. Irons Oaks Environmental Learning Center, 20000 Western Ave., will host a petting zoo from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Animals from Little Starr Farm of Manhattan will be available for kids to see, pet and feed. Registration is $6 per person for Homewood-Flossmoor Park District residents, $8 per person for non-residents. Click here to register.

National Hot Dog Day. A summertime tradition returns to Irwin Park, 18120 Highland Ave., from noon until 2 p.m. Beef and vegan hot dogs will be available for $2. Water, soda and chips will be available for $1 each.

Friday, July 19

Lions Club Pool Member Appreciation Day. Pass holders are invited to a party from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the pool, 1041 Ridge Road in Homewood. Concessions will be open all night. No guests for this event.

Brew & View. Homewood-Flossmoor Park District will host a showing of the movie “A League of Their Own” at 7:30 p.m. in Irwin Park, 18120 Highland Ave. in Homewood. It will be an evening filled with brews, food and fun. The movie will start at dusk. Vendors will include Juancho’s Tacos, Buona Beef Flossmoor, Wiley’s GrillCrab BagzNissa’s Nana Pudding & More, Homewood Ice CreamFlossmoor Station Restaurant & BreweryFunkytown Brewery and Wild Blossom Meadery and Winery.

Southland Jazz Collective. The group will be performing at The Bistro on Sterling, 1040 Sterling Ave. in Flossmoor starting at 5 p.m.

Saturday, July 20

Homewood Property Assessment Town Hall. Homewood will host a town hall meeting (also listed above with government meetings) with Cook County Assessor Fritz Kaegi from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, July 20, in the village auditorium, 2010 Chestnut Road. There will be an opportunity for residents to ask questions about increases in property value assessments and taxes.

Youth Showcase. Local talent will perform from 5 to 7 p.m. at The Conservatory, 1042 Sterling Ave. in Flossmoor.

Homewood Farmers Market. Fresh produce, artisan foods, handcrafted personal care item vendors plus live music will all be available on Martin Square between Ridge Road and Chestnut Road from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Barb and Dan’s Road Ride. Weekly bike ride starts at 8 a.m. Saturday from GoodSpeed Cycle, 2125 W. 183rd St. in Homewood. There are two groups. One is a no-one-gets-dropped group that follows a 20-mile route. Another group goes on a longer ride. Helmets required. Lights encouraged. Riders of all experience levels are welcome.

Off-Leash Bike Ride. A nine-mile ride every Saturday starting at 8:30 a.m. at GoodSpeed Cycle, 2125 W. 183rd St. in Homewood. The route includes Butterfield Creek bike path, past Rover’s Run and through Izaak Walton Preserve. No registration. Donuts upon return.

Sunday, July 21

Gottschalk-the-Walk returns. The sidewalks and street in front of the Gottschalk House on Martin Avenue in downtown Homewood will be canvases for artists and families from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Artists will use chalk to create works on the sidewalk. Families can add their own designs. Everyone is invited to bring their own chalk or use chalk provided by the village. There also will be games to play, including Connect Four, Tic Tac Toe and more. Kids also can enjoy cotton candy or get their faces painted.
