The local youth leadership nonprofit organization, You Matter 2, has achieved what its founder said was a significant milestone by receiving a $100,000 Cook County Starting Block Grant.
Destiny Watson, founder and CEO of You Matter 2, announced the big news recently.
“We’re thrilled,” said Watson. “This was our first time applying and submitting for grants on a county level, and we weren’t even selected in the first round.”
Upon learning that the organization did not progress in the initial round of the selection process, Watson and her team demonstrated their unwavering commitment by opting to continue to the second round for potential selection.
“We remained through the process and advanced to the second round, where we were chosen, truly incredible,” Watson shared.
Watson explained, “The grant is specifically designated for capacity building, enabling us to expand, enhance our professional development, increase our staff, and upgrade our software and data technology. It will also allow us to provide additional support to our afterschool programs.”
With this grant, Watson said: “We appreciate being seen. being in the south suburban region, receiving funding can be challenging, but we appreciate Cook County putting effort and focus in this area.”
You Matter 2 invests in diverse programs and initiatives, providing youth with new experiences, strong connections and opportunities for active community service.
“This grant not only puts us on a sustainable footing but also opens doors to more grant opportunities and foundations in the future, ensuring our continued growth and impact,” Watson said.
