  • Highlights: The board will consider:
  1. A license between the village and Flossmoor School District 161 to place the sculpture “Kinetic Vision” at Heather Hill School and another license between the village and Homewood-Flossmoor Park District to place a group of three sculptures at the southeast corner of Flossmoor Park. 
  2. Accepting a donation of “Paradise,” a sculpture by the late Hubert Phipps to the village’s permanent art collection. The piece was approved last year to be included in the village’s rotational sculpture collection. 
  3. A class-A liquor license request for Creed on Lake, which plans to open a restaurant in Flossmoor Commons.

  • Highlights: The board will consider amending the district fund balance policy, abating property taxes in accordance with the FY2024 Property Tax Relief Grant and awarding a contract for G-Building roof replacement.

Monday, Feb. 19

Soup for the Soul. Dunning’s Market is sponsoring a soup-tasting event featuring about 20 chefs for a fundraiser for the Center for Food Equity in Medicine (CFFEIM) from 5 to 9 p.m. at FCC Community House in Flossmoor, 847 Hutchison Road.

Tuesday, Feb. 20

Brumley Drive Reconstruction Project. Flossmoor will host an open house from 6 to 8 p.m. at village hall, 2800 Flossmoor Road, to give residents a chance to learn more and ask questions about the improvements planned for Brumley Drive from Bruce Avenue to Sterling Avenue.

Homewood Stories. The storytelling show at FCC Community House, 847 Hutchison Road, will begin at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tellers include Paul Teodo, Margie Rossi, Joe Mallon, Paula J. Smith and show curator Karen O’Donnell. Patrons can bring their own beverages, dinner, snacks. Tickets are $20 at the door, $15 in advance.

Wednesday, Feb. 21

Tutu Hullabaloo. Read stories about dance and learn about different dance styles from 4 to 4:45 p.m. at Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway. Register here.

Thursday, Feb. 22

Loulou Belle celebrates 8. The boutique at 2049 Ridge Road in Homewood will celebrate its eighth anniversary with Ladies’ Night. “Enjoy bubbles, bites, raffles and create a mini floral arrangement to take home.”

Drama Group stages “Ain’t Misbehavin.'” The 1930s in Harlem come alive in this swinging revue celebrating the world of the Cotton Club and honky tonk dives in classic Fats Waller songs. Shows are at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22; Friday, Feb. 23 and Saturday, Feb. 24; and 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24 and Sunday, Feb. 25. Click here for tickets.

Saturday, Feb. 24

“Winter Break” play at H-F High. The Homewood-Flossmoor High School Theatre Department will stage its winter play, “Winter Break,” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22; Friday, Feb. 23; and Saturday, Feb. 24. Click here to buy tickets. The play is about a town where winter break has just begun but snow has yet to fall, and 19 teenagers, some who know each other, some who don’t, wrestle with friendships, breakups, loss, graduating, finding their place in the world and accepting change.

Beyond the Bench Judicial Candidates Forum. An opportunity to meet judicial candidates from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Gloria J. Taylor Banquet Hall, 14821 Broadway Ave. in Harvey. Sponsored by Democratic Women of the Southland Region in partnership with NAACP Far South Suburban Branch.

Improv at Irwin Center. South of Chi improv group will present a family-friendly show at 2 p.m. in Irwin Center, 18120 Highland Ave. in Homewood. The comedians will use suggestions from the audience to come up with skits and play games. There’s also a chance someone in the audience could be selected to join them on stage. Girl Scout Cookies and Craft Beer Pairing. Flossmoor Station Restaurant & Brewery will be partnering with Girl Scouts at Western Avenue School to sell cookies for a good cause. The event will include a sample of four craft beers and eight cookies for $25. Pairings will be available at 1  and 3 p.m. Click here for tickets.

“Big Suit” at Freedom Hall. “Big Suit” is a tribute to David Byrne and The Talking Heads. A collective of nine musicians drawn to the cerebral adventures, infectious rhythms, and pioneering music known to the world as Talking Heads.
