Meet the Candidates: Jim Mitros, Flossmoor (free)

Jim Mitros

Age: 65
Education: B.S., Management, Purdue University
Job/role: Sales – Atlas Restoration LLC
Family: Wife, Nancy, and four children.
Other elected positions: Flossmoor trustee for 28 years, Flossmoor Zoning Board for two years.

Issues:
The most important issues facing Flossmoor are aging infrastructure and high taxes.

Goals:
My top goals are to retain our top-notch village staff and support the excellent services provided by our award-winning public works and finance departments, village management, and police and fire departments.

Another goal is the continued development of commercial areas, which will help to reduce the tax burden on residents.

I will also ensure Flossmoor remains an inclusive and welcoming community for all which is showcased at successful village events, such as MLK Day of Service and Flossmoor Fest, to name a few.

Every day I wake up thankful to live in Flossmoor. My children are better off for being raised in Flossmoor, and, quite frankly, a village like ours is unique. I’ve always said that community is food for the soul, and that is abundant in Flossmoor. People know their neighbors. People walk places
— to school, to parks, and to our central business district where we can easily catch a train into Chicago and surrounding areas. We should always strive to keep our sense of connection to each other throughout the village, and I will work to continue fostering services and programs that support that goal.
