Barb & Dan’s Road Ride. A 25-mile fitness bike ride. Everyone stays together. Leaves GoodSpeed Cycles, 2125 W. 183rd St., every Saturday (weather permitting) at 8 a.m. Returns before 10 a.m. Pace dictated by the riders who show up. Explore our local streets and trail system with Barb & Dan Lawler.
Off-Leash Ride. A nine-mile bike ride at about a 9-to-10 mph pace every Saturday. Route includes Butterfield Creek bike path, Rovers Run and Izaak Walton Preserve. Starts at 8:30 a.m. from GoodSpeed Cycles, 2125 W. 183rd St. in Homewood. Ends back at the shop about 9:30 a.m. for donuts. Kid trailers welcome.
Homewood Public Works Open House. From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Homewood Public Works facility, 17755 Ashland Ave., members of the community will get a behind-the-scenes look at the operations, equipment and staff that support the village each day. The event also will feature family-friendly activities, including a dress-up station and refreshments.
STEM Saturday. Homewood Science Center, 18022 Dixie Highway, will host its free weekly science play time for the whole family from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Play opportunities include Pixel Pegs, Nano, Early Math Counts Activities, Makerspace, Imagination Playground, Dinosaur Bones, LEGO Wall and more.
Adult Golf Clinic: Woods. Coyote Run Golf Course, 888 Kedzie Ave. in Flossmoor will host a workshop from 10 to 11 a.m. on how to hit with woods. Topics include tee height, launch angle and ball position. See what technology could do for your game. For anyone age 18 and up. Fee is $20 for H-F Park District residents, $25 for non-residents. Advanced Computer Class for Adults: Excel Formulas and Functions. Learn how formulas differ from functions, how to create accurate formulas and how to use Excel’s function wizard to create functions that will average, count, find high and low values in a series of numbers and more. The class will meet from 10 a.m. to noon in the Helen Wilson Meeting Room at Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave. To get the most from this session, you should be familiar with the basic layout of an Excel spreadsheet and know how to input text and numbers into a spreadsheet. The library provides students with laptops for this class. Please do not bring your own device. Individualized instruction may not be possible. Book Brunch. Teens in grades 7 through 12 who think the two greatest things in life are food and reading are invited to The FORT in Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, from 10:30 a.m. to noon for breakfast and books, whether reading, discussing or just hanging out. Pokémon trainers ages 6 to 18 are invited to the Helen Wilson Meeting Room from 2:30 to 4 p.m. at Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., to trade cards and enjoy friendly battles in a relaxed setting. Whether participants are new to the Pokémon Trading Card Game or already know the basics, this program offers a fun space to share cards, play, and enjoy the Pokémon world together. Register here.
Family Campout. Homewood-Flossmoor Park District will host a family campout from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. the next morning at Woodborough Park, 18402 Aberdeen St. in Homewood. Participants will participate in a night hike, s’mores, games and sleep in the park overnight. Register here.
