Highlights:

• Consider a revised preliminary plan for the development of townhomes and a cafe on village-owned property at 2611-2633 Flossmoor Road. The Plan Commission has reviewed the revised plan. Three of the four members have expressed support for the plan, but one member has expressed reservations. The developer is seeking the Board of Trustees’ guidance on whether to proceed.
• Discussion of a possible agreement with Grand Prairie Services to create a pilot program that would build on early collaboration between village police and fire emergency responders and a Grand Prairie crisis response team.
• An update on the staff’s work to follow the village’s strategic plan during 2024-25.

Monday, May 19

Animal Visit. Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., will host Flying Fox Conservation Fund company in the Helen Wilson Meeting Room from 6 to 7 p.m. There will be an array of exotic animals to view and touch and learn about. Registration is required. 

Plant Swap. Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, will host a plant swap from 6 to 7 p.m. Potted houseplants, cuttings and garden plants are welcome. Plants must be in good health and pest free. Registration is required.

Tuesday, May 20

Pain Management. Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, will host a presentation from 6:30 to 8 p.m. by Dr. Dragan Gastevski from Advocate Health, who will discuss managing chronic pain.

Wednesday, May 21

FSL House Walk. The Flossmoor Service League will be showcasing four beautiful homes in Flossmoor during its annual House Walk from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Ttickets are available with a $30 donation. Tickets also can be purchased at UpsaDaisy Boutique, 18100 Martin Ave. in Homewood; GypsyFix, 1056 Sterling Ave. in Flossmoor; and Art4Soul, 18135 Hardwood Ave. in Homewood. ​A buffet lunch will be available at Flossmoor Station between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tickets for lunch are $25. Please purchase luncheon tickets by May 16. A limited number of tickets will be available after that date. 

Apprenticeship & Career Fair. Cook County 5th District Commissioner Kisha McCaskill will sponsor an opportunity for a fresh start from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with Jack Solomon at Gloria Taylor Hall, 14821 Broadway Ave. in Harvey. Anyone who is starting out, changing careers or reentering the workforce will have a chance to connect with hiring employers. Bring your resume and credentials.

Thursday, May 22

Garden Club. Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, will host the monthly garden club, which is open to all, from beginner gardeners to master gardeners, from 7 to 8 p.m.

Saturday, May 24

GoodSpeed Anniversary Celebration. After the two regular weekly bike rides (see below) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. GoodSpeed will host guided E-bike test rides, specials on accessories and clothing, free hot dogs and soda, wheelie selfies and a 15th anniversary Ho-Flo Bike Parade from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. After the parade, there will be a food truck, wheelie contest, beer and ice cream.

Barb & Dan’s Road Ride. Riders of all experience levels can join the group which leaves at 8 a.m. from GoodSpeed Cycle, 2125 183rd St. in Homewood. There is a no-drop group that rides about 20 miles and stronger riders sometimes go farther. Helmets required, daytime lights strongly recommended. Anniversary twist: Photograph 15 items off of the I Spy list during the ride to enter a drawing for a free 15th anniversary commemorative T-shirt.

Off-leash Ride. A leisurely just-riding-around nine-mile ride every Saturday. Route includes Butterfield Creek bike path, Rovers Run and Izaak Walton Preserve. Starts at GoodSpeed Cycles, 2125 183rd St. at 8:30 a.m. sharp, ends back at the shop 9:45ish for donuts. Anniversary twist: All who summit Willow Hill will be entered into a drawing to win a commemorative 15th Anniversary T-shirt.

Lemonade on the Lawn. Stop by from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a complimentary glass of lemonade to promote summer reading program at at Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway.

Friends of the Library Book Sale. The sale will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway.

Monday, May 26

Memorial Day in Homewood. The Wally Burns VFW Post 8077 will host its annual Memorial Day service at 10:30 a.m. in the Veterans Memorial park at Olive Road and Harwood Avenue. The Homewood-Flossmoor High Marching Band will perform, as will a combined James Hart and Parker Junior High band. The event will include wreath laying services, the sounding of taps and a 21-gun salute.

Memorial Day in Flossmoor. Residents and community musicians come together for a remembrance event at 3 p.m. at the Village Hall flagpole, 2800 Flossmoor Road.

Thursday, May 29

A Decade of Impact Celebration. You Matter 2 will celebrate its first decade from 6 to 9 p.m.  at Glenwoodie Golf Club, 19301 S. State St. in Glenwood. The youth leadership organization has had tremendous impact not only on the young people who participate in its programs but on the community through its many public service projects. Friday, May 30

Respond Now’s Gala for Hunger. Respond Now is hosting a Double Match Gala for Hunger from 6 to 8 p.m. to fight back against recent cuts to federal grant funding. There will be food, drinks and a silent auction. The event will be at Sargent Means Park, 20712 Western Ave, Olympia Fields. Tickets are available here.

Saturday, May 31

Homewood Outdoor Farmers Market. The summer tradition will return and will run every Saturday through Oct. 11. The market will be open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Saturday in Martin Square between Chestnut and Ridge roads in downtown Homewood.

Food Drive. Bring canned food (no green beans), cereals to St. John Neumann Parish parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway in Homewood, from 9 to 11 a.m. for the Catholic Charities Food Drive. Between 150 and 200 families in need visit the pantry each week. Donations as checks made out to Catholic Charities are welcome. Please write St. Irenaeus Pantry in the memo line.

Thursday, July 24

Chamber Night. The fifth annual Chamber Night will bring the music and family fun to a new location, Flossmoor Commons, starting at 5 p.m. There will be food, local business vendors and more great music, headlined by an Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra ensemble playing showtunes.
