Fido’s Landing to open rescue, adoption center May 4 in Homewood

Since the South Suburban Humane Society’s adoption center left at the end of 2023, the former veterinary clinic at 2207 W. 183rd St. in Homewood has been silent, but barking will be back on May 4 when dog rescue and adoption organization Fido’s Landing makes the place its new home.

Construction is still in progress, but the organization is planning a soft opening from noon to 7 p.m.

The Homewood Board of Trustees voted on March 25 to endorse a Cook County Class 8 property tax relief designation for the building owner, paving the way for Fido’s Landing to move its operations to Homewood.

Organization founder Sarah Montgomery along with several volunteers and a number of fluffy, energetic rescued puppies were at the Homewood Indoor Farmers Market on March 27 to introduce themselves to the community.

She said the organization has been helping dogs for 16 years and has grown to the point that it needs more space.
