Mike was born in Chicago Oct. 31, 1948, and grew up in Homewood, where his friends knew him as “Ozzy” and “Mike.” He was a proud member of St. Joseph Parish and a graduate of St. Joseph Catholic Grammar School and Mendel Catholic High School in Chicago’s Roseland neighborhood. A lifelong and active parishioner of St. Joseph, Mike faithfully served as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, a Minister of Care, Lead Lector, and CCD Instructor. His dedication was recognized when he was honored as a St. Joseph Alumni Person of the Year—a testament to his enduring impact on the parish that shaped him.

Professionally, Mike built a long and successful career at Smith Barney Citigroup in Chicago, where he formed lasting friendships that enriched his life.

Mike’s vibrant personality and generous spirit were reflected in his many interests. He loved music and, together with his beloved wife Janet, founded DEE JAY Productions, sharing their love of entertaining others. He was an avid golfer and deeply committed to youth sports, spending many years coaching in the Homewood Baseball and Softball League.

Mike was the beloved husband for 44 years of Janet (née Friar); devoted father of Katelyn (Joshua) Robin; and cherished grandfather of Lucy and Julian Robin. He treasured every moment with his grandchildren, celebrating their milestones and cheering them on at every opportunity. He was the loving brother of William (Kathy) Ormsby, Patrick (Susan) Ormsby, Mary Ann (Tim) O’Hea, James Ormsby, and the late Thomas Ormsby; dear son of the late Francis and Mary Elizabeth (née Luecke) Ormsby; and a proud uncle to many nieces and nephews. Mike was a friend to many and will be remembered for his kindness, joy, and unwavering love for others.

Mike’s legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched — with kindness in service, joy in celebration, and love at the heart of all he did. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.

Family and friends will gather on Saturday, September 20, 2025, for an 11:45 am Memorial Mass at St. John Neumann Parish (formerly St. Joseph Parish), 17951 Dixie Highway, Homewood.

In lieu of flowers, the Ormsby family kindly requests that memorials in Mike’s name be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, Grand Central Station, P.O. Box 4777, New York, NY 10163-4777 or [email protected].
