Jayne R. Burghardt died Jan. 28 after a long illness. She was 100 years old.
At the time of her death, she lived in Flossmoor. Originally from Ohio, she met her husband, Bill, at a USO Club event during World War II. They married in 1946 and moved to Park Forest in 1953 where they lived for 44 years.
Mrs. Burghardt was a staff member of Governors State University for many years. She also worked at Landauer Construction, School District 159 in Matteson and Bloom Engineering.
She was known in the community as “the coach’s wife” and spent hours at games cheering on teams Bill coached at Rich East and Homewood-Flossmoor High Schools. She was a member of Faith United Protestant Church in Park Forest and various women’s circle activities. She enjoyed spending time on the golf course and playing bridge with friends.
In retirement, Mrs. Burghardt enjoyed time in Venice, Florida. When Bill Burghardt died, she married Jim Rinella. The couple spent six years together enjoying their travels to national parks.
Mrs. Burghardt is survived by her son, Bill, of Glen Ellyn; daughters Barbara of Glen Ellyn and Ginni of Homewood; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned for spring.
