Bark or Treat Pet Parade and Costume Contest. The third annual Halloween event for dogs and their people will kick off at 3 p.m. on the Flossmoor Public Library lawn with check-in and games. The pet parade will begin at 4 p.m. and end at Flossmoor Station’s caboose. Costume contest judging will begin at 4:15 p.m. DJ Phil Lee will spin tunes.
Trick or Treat Trail. H-F Park District will host its annual trick or treat event for children ages 10 and under from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Millennium Park. The event is free for district residents, $2 for non-residents. Click here to register.
Sunday, Oct. 27
Terrifying Toxic Tour. South Suburbs for Greenspace and scientist David Zaber will lead “toxic tours” through Izaak Walton. Guides will take groups of 12 through the woods and prairie until they arrive at polluted ponds. There will be information about the science issues, civic issues, and impact on people, pets, and wildlife. Meet at the main Ridge Road parking lot, 1100 Ridge Road, at 3:30 p.m. The last group will depart at 3:55 p.m. The total walking distance is approximately two miles and attendees should dress appropriately for the terrain. Pumpkin Carving Contest. Bring your own pumpkin to Izaak Walton Preserve east pavilion from noon to 5 p.m. Click here to register and for rules of the contest. Entry fee is $30. Cash prizes. Activities, snacks and music provided. Sponsored by Creative Approaches to Therapy. Proceeds will aid those affected by Hurricane Helene.

View Spooky Houses in Homewood. The entries in the Haunted Homewood Halloween contest are in, and the village has posted a map to help take a spooky tour. Judges will review the entries on Oct. 28, and the winners will be announced Oct. 29.
