A vehicle owner was shot early Tuesday, Oct. 2, when he accosted someone attempting to steal his vehicle, according to Homewood police.
Officers responded shortly after 3:30 a.m. to the 3000 block of Matthew after receiving a report of an attempted vehicle theft and gunshot victim.
Officers learned that the victim heard his vehicle start in his driveway and observed someone inside attempting to steal it. As the victim approached the vehicle, someone fired a handgun at him multiple times.
The victim sustained a gunshot wound before retreating, police said. The offender or offenders fled in another vehicle, leaving the victim’s car on scene.
The victim was treated by Homewood Fire Department Paramedics and transported to an area hospital. At this time the victim’s injuries are not considered life threatening.
