Western Avenue students, teachers and volunteers walk along Park Drive near the Flossmoor Public Library on Friday, Sept. 13, during the school’s 10th annual walk-a-thon.
Students stopped in groups on the sidewalk in front of the library for a quick photo by Principal Gina Isabelli before continuing their march back to the school on Western Avenue. Isabelli said the event is the school’s biggest fundraiser for the PTO, which helps fund special projects, including Black History Month and Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations.
The whole student body got moving to help out. “We have 493 students and they are all walking, from kindergarten through fifth grade,” she said.
