Highlights: The board will:

  • Witness the oath of office administered to two new police officers, Oscar Zendejas and Erin Oldenburg.
  • Consider a resolution honoring Max Massi for 20 years of service to the village.
  • Consider a redevelopment agreement with Invals International LLC to reimburse eligible expenses for improvements to the building and parking lot at 2049-2051 Ridge Road.

Monday, Aug. 26

Organized Crime in Prohibition Chicago. Thornton Historical Society will host a program at 7 p.m. by John Binder, “Organized Crime in Chicago during Prohibition,” at the museum, 114 N. Hunter Street in Thornton. Binder is a retired university professor who has researched organized crime in Chicago for over 30 years. He is the author of “Al Capone’s Beer Wars” and “The Chicago Outfit.”

Wednesday, Aug. 28

Homewood Block Party. The last village block party of the season will take place from 6 to 10 p.m. in Martin Square. Calvin Buado, the official DJ for the Chicago Blackhawks, will bring the music.

Sunday, Sept. 1

Drop Dead Comedy Night. South of Chi Improv group will perform from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Thornton Distilling, 400 E. Margaret St., Thornton.

Save the date

The Village of Homewood Treeshare Program will return after a cicada-related hiatus in the spring. Residents will be able to purchase two trees each in the village hall parking lot, 2020 Chestnut Road, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7. Tree types, costs, and care instructions are available on the village website.

Homewood Citizen Civics Academy. The deadline to sign up for the fall Citizens Civics Academy is Sept. 3. The sessions are from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday evenings from Sept. 23 to Oct. 28. Click click here to register.
