Monday, May 27
Memorial Day Ceremony. Homewood will host a community Memorial Day ceremony at 10:30 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial, 18161 Morris Ave.
Taps Across America. Flossmoor will host a Memorial Day observance at 3 p.m. in the traffic island downtown. Members of the Homewood-Flossmoor High School Band and the Bel Canto Community Choir will perform.
Splash Pad. The Homewood-Flossmoor Park District Splash Pad at Millennium Park opened May 25 and will be open daily, weather permitting, from 10 a.m. to noon, 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Free to district residents and Lions Club Pool Pass holders and $5 for non-residents. Tuesday, May 28
Zumba with GiGi. The session with a mix of low-intensity and high-intensity moves goes from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at H-F Racquet & Fitness Center, 2920 183rd St.
Choo-Choo Ride. The weekly four- to five-mile bike ride through Homewood and Flossmoor neighborhoods returns. Riders will meet at 6 p.m. at GoodSpeed Cycles, 2125 183rd St. The ride starts at 6:30 p.m. It continues Tuesdays weekly at the same place and time through Labor Day.
Friday, May 31
Art & Garden Street Fair. The festival will be open 4 to 9 p.m. on Martin Avenue in downtown Homewood. More than 70 artisan vendors are expected for the two-day event, selling handcrafted craft and art items, from jewelry and candles to furniture and small batch foods. Live music on Friday will feature Big Weekend at 4 p.m. and Not My Dad at 7 p.m. There will be activities for kids and a variety of food trucks at the event.
Belly Dance with Loren. Serendipity Yoga and Wellness, 18300 Dixie Highway, will host an opportunity to learn Egyptian style belly dancing and alternate between fast and slow rhythms from 7 to 8 p.m. Register here.
Allan Laskey Combo. Live music at the Quarry Ballroom, 121 S. Williams St. in Thornton, from 8 to 11 p.m.
Saturday, June 1
Bike the Gem. Flossmoor’s Future holds the annual community bike ride following about half the route of the Hidden Gem Half Marathon. The ride will start from the Infant Jesus of Prague School parking lot at Douglas Avenue and Flossmoor Road at 11 a.m. A one-mile ride for youngsters under age 9 will start at 11:15 a.m. This free event requires registration here.
Homewood Farmers Market. Fresh produce, artisan foods, handcrafted personal care item vendors plus live music will all be available on Martin Square between Ridge Road and Chestnut Road from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Food Drive. A Catholic Charities food drive, hosted by the Parish of St. John Neumann, 17951 Dixie Highway in Homewood, will be conducted from 9 to 11 a.m. in the parish parking lot.
Pool’s Open! The Lions Club Pool, 1041 Ridge Road in Homewood, opens for the season at 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Daily admission and pool passes will be available. Details are available here.
Dance Away Domestic Violence. Anew: Building Beyond Abuse and Violence hosts its fourth annual line dancing and cardio drumming fundraising event from 3 to 6 p.m. at FCC Community House, 847 Hutchison Road in Flossmoor.
Roller Derby. Chicago Knockouts will host a minor league bout at Homewood Auditorium, 2010 Chestnut Road. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., bout starts at 6 p.m. Accessible seating available and reserved at no extra charge. Buy tickets here.
