  1. The board will consider a $66,983 contract for engineering services in preparation for the village’s lead water service line replacement project, a proposal to create an advisory committee for village events.
  2. The board will consider approving a letter of support for an Illinois Department of Transportation proposal to restripe Dixie Highway from Park Avenue to just north of Sycamore Drive. The item was deferred from the Feb. 27 meeting agenda.
  3. Police Detective Nathan Bruni will take the oath of office for his promotion to sergeant. 

Flossmoor Public Library Board of Trustees will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, in the library, 1000 Sterling Ave.

Wednesday, March 13

Rover’s Run survey review. The Homewood-Flossmoor Park Board will meet at 5 p.m. in Irwin Center, 18120 Highland Ave., to review feedback from a park survey and discuss future operations of the Rover’s Run dog park. The board decided in January to make the dog park a free amenity, but after receiving feedback from users, agreed to revisit the question.

Learn about Homewood’s Chief McGrath. Homewood Historical Society will hold a brief business meeting at 6:45 p.m. before introducing the featured speaker, Homewood Police Chief Denise McGrath. The meeting will take place at Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway.

Friday, March 15

Shamrock Scavenger Hunt. The first of Homewood’s four scavenger hunts this year will be open today through Sunday, March 17. About 20 Homewood businesses will have a shamrock for participants to find. Take a selfie with the shamrock and email to [email protected]. One winner will receive a $10 gift certificate from each participating business.

FVM Trivia Night. Flossmoor Veterans Memorial will host its annual trivia night fundraiser at 7 p.m. in the FCC Community House, 847 Hutchison Road in Flossmoor to help build and maintain the Wall of Honor at the southwest corner of Flossmoor Park. Categories will include “We Are H-F,” “Opening Statements” (famous first lines from movies), “Military Trivia” (with questions read by a special VIP guest), “Batter Up!” “Famous Military Veterans” and “Flossmoor Lore.” Register here.

Hidden Gem Half Marathon registration opens. Early bird rates for the Sept. 7 race in Flossmoor will be in effect from March 15 to May 15. Contact Tom Dobrez at [email protected] for more information.

Saturday, March 16

Get Lucky Bike Ride. GoodSpeed Cycle will sponsor a ride around Homewood in which cyclists will follow limerick clues to find shamrocks hidden in the village. Participants who take a selfie with each shamrock before 4 p.m. will have a chance to win a prize. Clues will be posted to social media and at goodspeedcycles.com at 10 a.m. the day of the event.

World Cultures and Celebrations. Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., will host from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. an opportunity to learn about cultures, traditions and celebrations from around the world. Children under 9 years old must have an adult caregiver stay with them at the program.

Antiracism workshop. Flossmoor Community Church Anti-Racism Committee will host a workshop from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. facilitated by Chicago Regional Organizing for Anti-Racism. Participants will explore how racism operates on various levels in society. Registration is required. Click here.

Sunday, March 17

Family Ice Skating Fundraiser. The Homewood-Flossmoor PA invites you to join us for Family Ice Skating Fundraiser. Grab your skates, bring the kids, and let’s have some fun. All proceeds support scholarships awarded to selected graduating seniors.
