District 153 schedules special meeting Monday to discuss hybrid learning

The District 153 school board will conduct a special meeting at 7 p.m. Monday to outline plans for the start of its hybrid learning program.

The meeting will be conducted by Zoom and can be accessed through the District 153 website.

Superintendent Dale Mitchell notified parents Friday that the district has been watching local COVID-19 metrics that appear to be within an acceptable range. He also said there have been “very low” numbers of staff and students who have either tested positive for the virus or are quarantining because they have been in close proximity to someone who has contracted the virus.

Even if the plans are accepted, schools will not open until March.

The proposed schedule would have students at Willow and Churchill Schools starting March 1, with an orientation set for Feb. 25 and 26.

The hybrid schedule for James Hart School students would begin March 8, the start of the third trimester. Student orientation would be March 2, 3 and 4.

District 153 had previously hoped to have students return in February.
