Homewood to consider selling land to developers

At their regular board meeting Tuesday, Sept. 12, Homewood trustees will consider selling three parcels of land at the northwest corner of Halsted and 175th streets that would enable redevelopment of the property.

Two developers are involved in the purchase. One developer, GMX, plans to build restaurants on the site.

Trustees will also consider extending an intergovernmental agreement with the village of East Hazel Crest that would enable the villages to collaborate on the development of a casino on property south of Interstate 80/294 and west of Halsted Street. The development depends on the passage of enabling legislation by the state General Assembly.

The agreement was originally approved late in 2012 and has been renewed periodically since.

In other business, trustees will consider measures to

  • convey a small parcel of land to the Illinois Department of Transportation to enable the development of traffic signals at Halsted and 174th streets.
  • award $7,000 in non-TIF business incentives requested by Stepping Stones Child Care for improvements at 17560 Dixie Highway
  • approve purchase of a new pumper fire engine for nearly $600,000
  • approve a bid to repaint the 1 million-gallon water storage tank at 17755 Ashland Ave. at a cost of about $350,000
  • approve a bid to make improvements to Water Plant No. 2 at a cost of nearly $350,000.
Board meetings begin at 7:30 p.m. at village hall, 2020 Chestnut Road.
