Prairie State cancels many classes because of power outage

Prairie State College in Chicago Heights has canceled classes this week because of a power outage affecting portions of the campus.A notice posted on the college website attributed the outage to an electrical fire Saturday, Jan. 28, that affected power in the main building, the Health/Tech Center and Matteson Area Center. Evening classes in the Matteson Area Center will be held as scheduled, however.   • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
