“It’s enthralling. There are so many things to do. I want to sign up for every one!” said Joseph Coleman, who will enter Homewood-Flossmoor High School in August.
He walked through the H-F field house going from one table to the next learning about the more than 100 clubs and sports extracurricular programs offered at the high school.
Fellow student Savannah Holly is in the orchestra at James Hart School and will try out for orchestra as a freshman next school year.
“There are so many interesting things, and the students are so enthusiastic,” she said.
H-F students showed their pride in a variety of ways, whether they were part of the cheer squad or members of Zoobots walking through the crowd with lab animals.

at H-F’s Voyage to Excellence
for incoming freshmen.
Sarah Skorupa of Homewood said when she came to H-F from James Hart School she wanted to do theater but didn’t get selected. She switched to Drama’s Group Interpretation performance and “just fell in love with it. It’s like my sport,” she said.
Skorupa pointed out that not every state has a Group Interpretation competition, but Illinois does and H-F has been on the winning side many times.
Parent Diane Matthews of Flossmoor said she was “overwhelmed, but in a good way.” Her daughter, Lauren, is on the robotics team at Parker Junior High and knows H-F offers a great pre-engineering program, as well as an outstanding arts program, so she may have a tough time choosing.
Joining a club or program can make a real difference in your school life at H-F, said Jasmine Travis, a senior. She found that being in the nationally recognized H-F Steppers is more than choreography: “It is not just a team, it’s a bond you form” with the other members.
Xavier Thomaston of Homewood is enjoying robotics and shop at James Hart School. He took a special interest in welding and automotive offerings at H-F.
His father, Eric Thomaston, was just as excited to see all that H-F had to offer.
“This is so much more than I ever had in high school,” he said.
