Flossmoor’s Meijer superstore is sparking interest in further commercial development in the village’s southwest corner.

The village is taking steps to bring in developers who will add more retail along Vollmer Road and Crawford Avenue.

Village Manager Bridget Wachtel said this week that she and Mayor Paul Braun have been in contact with Chicago-area developers and they have responded . . .

Summer events

Saturday, July 2

  • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
