Sometimes to get attention, it helps to rise above the crowd.
Homewood police officers will be rising to roof level to get attention from 6 a.m. to noon Friday at Dunkin Donuts, 17579 Halsted St., Homewood. The annual Cop on a Rooftop program is an effort to raise money for Special Olympics Illinois, according to Homewood Deputy Police Chief Denise McGrath.
“We will be selling T-shirts, hats, pins, Harley Davidson raffle tickets and Law Enforcement Torch Run Travel mugs,” she said. “Anyone who makes a donation will receive a free donut coupon.”
T-shirts and hats will sell for $15, the travel mug and Harley Davidson raffle tickets will sell for $10 and pins will sell for $5.
In the 14 years of the Cop on a Rooftop program, nearly $2.3 million has been raised for Special Olympics Illinois, according to the organization’s website.
Special Olympics Illinois is part of the global Special Olympics organization, which provides opportunities for thousands of people with intellectual disabilities to participate in and enjoy sporting events.
