H-F High School presents “The Laramie Project”

Nancy Wilson, District 161 director of special education. She has a 29-year career as teacher and administrator.

I began my career as a special education teacher at a cooperative program, where I worked for four years. After the birth of my second child, I stayed home with my children. (There were a total of five.)

After 10 years at home, I returned to work at Western Avenue School as a special education teacher. I have worked at Western Avenue and Parker Junior High. I began my administrative career as Western Avenue assistant principal. I was at Western for four years and then moved on to my current position of director of special education at the district office. This is my 10th year in that position.

My best memories will be the incredible students, families and staff that I have had the opportunity to work with.

I will always treasure the opportunity that I had to work within the community that I reside in and raised my family in. Since I am still a resident, my hope is to continue to be involved in the community.

My first plan for retirement is to enjoy my family and grandchildren. I am looking forward to having time off this summer and will look at plans in the fall. For now, it’s just about relaxing.
