The Homewood-Flossmoor Park District was honored on Jan. 30 for its outstanding programs and facilities at a statewide meeting of the Illinois Association of Park Districts and Illinois Park and Recreation Association.

The H-F Park District was recognized as an Illinois Distinguished Accredited Agency by the two associations. The award is presented with the goal of improving the delivery of park and recreation services in Illinois.

The park district received high marks for being well organized. It received excellent ratings for having goals tied to its mission and values; impressive and well maintained parks and facilities; and sound management practices.

The H-F park board submitted a comprehensive evaluation to demonstrate it had met state guidelines for providing exceptional park and recreation services to the community.

A team of evaluators came to review the H-F Park District’s general management procedures, finances and business operations, facilities and parks, personnel, recreation services, legal documentation, mission statement, goals and safety manuals. Their work led to the award.

The park district will be re-evaluated in six years.
