The Village of Homewood will be a chocoholic’s paradise 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Feb. 20 as it hosts the 14th annual Homewood Chocolate Fest.

This year’s festival will feature baking demonstrations, children’s activities, a science demonstration, vendor booths and a variety of sweets, desserts and gourmet baked goods, according to a news release from the village.

The future Homewood Community Science Center is also participating with a demonstration on the science behind chocolate. In addition, kids get the opportunity to decorate a complimentary take-home cooking apron at any time during the festival.

The Bake-Off, hosted by the village Community Relations Commission, is a spirited contest for bakers and confectioners to compete for recognition as “Home Sweet Homewood’s Master Pastry Chef.” Judges will sample each entry and select three winners.

The judges aren’t the only ones who get to try the delicacies. For a donation, guests will get a chance to taste beginning at 12:45 p.m., and the winner will be announced at 1:30 p.m. Proceeds from the Bake-Off will benefit The South Suburban Humane Society.

The deadline to enter the Bake-Off is Monday, Feb. 15.

“Hands down, this is the sweetest festival Homewood hosts,” said Mayor Richard Hofeld. “The community really comes together for chocolate. It’s always exciting to see and sample all the amateur and professional bakers’ treats as they compete for the Master Pastry Chef award.”

In addition to the activities and contest, guests will be able to shop at a number of food vendors, including Bakewell Bakery, EmpanadUS, Fabulously Sweet Creations, Mother Wilma’s Marshmallow Factory, Pretzel Bizzare, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, Tiddleywink Toffee, Vintage Candy Apples and many more.

This free event is located in the H-F Park District Auditorium, 2010 Chestnut Road. For additional information, visit www.HomeSweetHomewood.com or call 708-798-3000.
