The connection between music and nature has always intrigued and inspired artists. Every genre has someone singing about the seasons, and that is the theme for the “Seasons of Song” program at 4 p.m. Jan. 24 at the Performing Arts Center at Governors State University (GSU).
Flossmoor resident John Concepcion, a Chicago Lyric Opera tenor and long-time supporter of the arts at GSU, hosts and narrates a musical program that not only celebrates the seasons it showcases a veritable who’s who of classical music by including works of Carlisle Floyd, George Gershwin, Samuel Barber, Franz Schubert, Stephen Sondheim, Oscar Hammerstein and many others.
Performers will be Rosalind Lee, soprano; Jennifer Kosharsky, mezzo soprano; Geoffrey Agpalo, tenor; and Vince Wallace, bass baritone. Paul Hamilton will accompany the singers at the piano.
This performance is part of the center’s “Opera Up Close” series, bringing local artists from the Lyric Opera to the Southland for intimate performances. Patrons are seated on the stage in the midst of the action. This is the final performance in the 2015-16 series.
Tickets are $38 and available at the box office. Tickets can be ordered online at CenterTickets.net. For additional information, call the Center for Performing Arts at 708-235-2222.
