The world may watch the glittering ball drop at midnight in Times Square to mark the new year, but in Homewood, families gather for a countdown and balloon drop at the stroke of noon.

The Homewood Noon Year’s Eve celebration will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 31, when the doors open at the H-F Park District Auditorium, 2010 Chestnut Road.

The Chicago Boyz Acrobatic Team will perform starting at 11 a.m. The group’s performance includes “amazing acrobatic stunts and tricks inside twirling jump ropes, catapulting off mini trampolines and thundering tumbling routines with impeccable timing,” according to a notice in the village e-Newswire.

A photo booth will also be available, and food will be provided compliments of White Castle.
