The Cancer Support Center raised over $41,000 in online donations on Dec. 1 during the Giving Tuesday fundraiser. The Coleman Foundation matched $15,000. The funds raised will benefit those living with cancer and their families.
“We are amazed by the support we received on Giving Tuesday,” said Sue Armato, executive director of The Cancer Support Center. “Our generous donors allow The Cancer Support Center to provide services at no cost to participants in more than 70 communities in Chicago’s Southland.
“We anticipate providing 30 percent more hours of programming this year as the need continues to grow,” Armato said. “Thank you to our committed community for helping us meet this need.”
In 2014, The Center provided more than 10,600 hours of service in programming to nearly 4,600 people. The Center has locations at 2028 Elm Rd. in Homewood and an office in Mokena. It also provides services at Advocate South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest, The University of Chicago Comprehensive Cancer Center at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox and Palos Community Hospital in Palos Heights.
“The Cancer Support Center is here to give strength, guidance and support to anyone living with a cancer diagnosis, as well as to their loved ones,” Armato explained. “The Center does this as a community-based, volunteer-driven, donor-supported organization.”
The Center’s programs, resources and services are delivered by professional therapists, counselors, nutritionists and experts in a warm, welcoming and nurturing setting.
