Local artists will contribute to Union Street Gallery’s efforts to forge stronger community connections and bring affordable art to the area during the holiday season, according to a gallery news release.
The gallery at 1527 Otto Boulevard in Chicago Heights has renamed its popular annual show from “Twelfth Month” to the “Handmade and Artisanal Market.” The market/show will continue to Dec. 23.
Handmade and Artisanal Market will include prints, cards, pottery, jewelry, ornaments and other decorative and functional work that would be appropriate as seasonal gifts.
Local musician Matt Bailey will be performing from 7 to 10 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 11.
Director Samantha Goss said Twelfth Month was perceived by the community to be one of Union Street’s art exhibits. Residents were not always aware of the smaller art pieces available at this time. The gallery will still display high quality art created by guild and member artists.
“By highlighting the market aspect we hope the community will feel more welcomed to come in and browse the art, knowing that we have beautiful work at a range of prices,” Goss said. “We also interested in reaching out and engaging the local community by hosting live music and food vendors at this free event.”
