Two weekend events have been cancelled because of lack of registrations, according to organizers.

The Zombie Fun Run, an annual event that benefits Homewood-Flossmoor High School bands, would have been held at Apollo Park on Saturday afternoon.

Organizer Anne Colton said the event is expected to return next year.

"The Zombies will return to their slumber until next fall," she said. "They are certain to be hungry for victims (aka runners) next year!"

Summer events

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
